ABOUT THE ROLE
As a CBRE Application Developer, you will design, build, and maintain in-house tools and programs that support day-to-day operations and finance. This is a build-and-own role: rather than configuring purchased software, you will develop custom applications, integrations, and reporting to meet business needs.
You will also build the business intelligence behind these tools: the dashboards, metrics, and reporting that operations and finance rely on day to day, from performance tracking to cost, budget, and forecasting.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Design, develop, test, and maintain in-house applications and tools that support business operations.
- Build and maintain REST API integrations between internal systems and third-party platforms.
- Develop automation that reduces manual work and streamlines data entry and reporting.
- Build business intelligence dashboards and metrics that surface day-to-day operational performance for business leaders.
- Develop financial and cost reporting, including budget tracking and forecasting inputs, to support finance and business decisions.
- Design and maintain the databases, data pipelines, and reporting views behind these tools.
- Build internal-facing and mobile tools as business needs require.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to translate business needs into working software, and assess feasibility against time and cost constraints.
- Gather and evaluate user feedback, and improve tools for usability and reliability.
- Oversee testing, validation, and deployment, and ensure tools operate within established specifications and approved data-handling rules.
- Modify and extend existing tools to correct errors and improve performance.
- Apply sound engineering judgment to solve non-routine problems, and document code, integrations, and procedures so tools are maintainable.
- Lead by example and model behaviors consistent with CBRE RISE values.
- Impact the quality of your own work and the work of others on the team, and explain complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders clearly.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred with 2-5 years of relevant software development experience. In lieu of a degree, a combination of experience and education will be considered.
- Strong Python development skills, including building and consuming REST APIs.
- Front-end development for internal tools and dashboards (HTML, JavaScript, and CSS; a modern framework such as React is a plus).
- Experience building business intelligence dashboards and operational or financial reporting (with a tool such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar) is strongly preferred.
- Experience designing relational databases and writing SQL, and comfort building data pipelines from multiple sources.
- Experience integrating with third-party platforms via API keys, OAuth, or service accounts, and handling authentication securely (no stored end-user credentials).
- Ability to analyze possible solutions, apply appropriate judgment and precedent, and solve moderately complex problems independently.
- In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong organizational skills with an inquisitive mindset and a bias toward shipping working tools.
- Advanced math skills, with the ability to work with percentages, rates, and other financial-related calculations.

Verify your degree field matches the role
H-1B1 visa requires a specialty occupation, meaning your engineering or technical degree must directly relate to application engineering duties. A degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or mechanical engineering satisfies this; a general business degree typically won't without supplementary credentials.
Search LCA filings by occupation code
Use the OFLC Wage Search to filter Labor Condition Application records by the Application Engineer SOC code. Employers with certified LCAs for this role have already documented prevailing wage compliance, signaling they understand H-1B1 visa sponsorship mechanics before you apply.
Find verified H-1B1 sponsors on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate surfaces employers with confirmed H-1B1 Singapore filing history for engineering roles, so you're targeting companies that have sponsored Singaporean professionals before rather than those encountering the process for the first time.
Clarify consular processing timing with your offer
Unlike H-1B, your H-1B1 visa application goes directly to the Singapore U.S. Embassy after your employer's LCA is certified by DOL. Negotiate your start date to allow at least four to six weeks after the LCA certification for interview scheduling and visa issuance.
Document the technical scope of your role precisely
Consular officers scrutinize whether Application Engineer duties genuinely require a specialized degree. Your employer's support letter should detail specific technical responsibilities, software platforms, client integration work, and engineering judgment required, not just the job title.
Confirm your employer's E-Verify enrollment before signing
H-1B1 visa employers must be E-Verify participants. Ask your hiring contact to confirm enrollment status before you accept an offer, since a non-enrolled employer can't complete the Form I-9 process required for your employment to begin legally.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Application Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B1 Singapore?
Yes, Application Engineer roles qualify when the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related technical field such as computer science, electrical engineering, or mechanical engineering. The key is that the job duties, including system integration, client technical support, and solution design, must genuinely require that specific degree, not just any bachelor's degree.
How does the H-1B1 Singapore visa compare to H-1B for Application Engineers?
H-1B1 Singapore skips the lottery entirely and processes at the U.S. Embassy in Singapore rather than through USCIS, making timelines more predictable. The annual cap of 5,400 visas for Singaporeans has never been exhausted. The tradeoff is that H-1B1 doesn't allow dual intent, so you can't simultaneously pursue a green card while on this status the way some H-1B holders do.
How do I find employers in the U.S. who have sponsored H-1B1 Singapore visas for engineering roles?
Migrate Mate filters job listings by verified H-1B1 Singapore sponsorship history, so you can focus on employers who have successfully filed Labor Condition Applications for Application Engineer or similar technical roles. This saves significant time compared to approaching employers who are unfamiliar with the H-1B1 process and may hesitate to sponsor.
What role does the Labor Condition Application play in my H-1B1 sponsorship?
Your employer must file and receive a certified LCA from DOL before you can apply for the H-1B1 visa at the consulate. The LCA confirms the employer will pay you at least the prevailing wage for Application Engineers in the work location. You can verify the prevailing wage for your role and geography using the OFLC Wage Search before negotiations.
Can I use O*NET to understand whether my Application Engineer duties support an H-1B1 petition?
O*NET provides the official occupational profile for Application Engineers, including the standard educational requirements and core tasks that immigration officers reference when evaluating specialty occupation eligibility. Reviewing your role against the O*NET profile helps you and your employer articulate why a specialized degree is required, which strengthens the consular application.
