Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as a Mobile Engineer
Align your portfolio to specialty occupation standards
H-1B1 visa requires your role to demand at least a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field. Frame your mobile engineering projects around architecture decisions and systems design, not just feature delivery, to satisfy the specialty occupation definition.
Search DOL LCA filings before applying
Employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications for mobile engineering roles have already cleared the DOL's wage certification process. Use Migrate Mate to filter for companies with verified H-1B1 LCA history so you target employers already set up to sponsor.
Clarify platform specialization with every recruiter
iOS and Android are distinct labor market categories in DOL's occupational classification system. Tell recruiters your primary platform and stack upfront so the LCA job description matches your actual role, which prevents RFE-level mismatches at the consulate.
Confirm your employer can meet prevailing wage before signing
Your offer salary must meet the DOL prevailing wage for your specific role, location, and experience level. Run your title and metro area through the OFLC Wage Search before accepting an offer to verify the number aligns with what your employer intends to certify.
Get your Singapore degree equivalency documented early
Consular officers assess whether your NUS, NTU, or SMU computer science or engineering degree meets U.S. bachelor's degree equivalency. If your credential is outside these universities, obtain a credential evaluation from a NACES-member evaluator before your DS-160 is submitted.
Use O*NET to verify your role qualifies as a specialty occupation
Look up Software Developers or Software Quality Assurance Analysts on O*NET before your employer drafts the LCA. The job zone classification and required education level from O*NET directly supports the specialty occupation argument your employer will make in the filing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does mobile engineering qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B1 Singapore?
Yes. Mobile engineering roles that require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a related field satisfy the H-1B1 specialty occupation requirement. The DOL's occupational classification for Software Developers covers iOS and Android development. Roles where any unrelated degree is accepted, or where degree requirements are listed as preferred rather than required, may not qualify and should be reviewed before the LCA is filed.
How does H-1B1 Singapore compare to H-1B for mobile engineers?
H-1B1 Singapore skips the annual lottery entirely. H-1B visa has an 85,000-visa cap with a randomized selection process, meaning qualified mobile engineers are often not selected despite meeting all requirements. H-1B1 has a separate 5,400-visa cap exclusively for Singaporeans, has never been exhausted, and is processed at the U.S. Embassy in Singapore rather than through USCIS. Your employer still files a certified LCA, but there's no I-129 petition required.
How do I find employers who sponsor H-1B1 Singapore visas for mobile engineers?
Search Migrate Mate for mobile engineer roles filtered by H-1B1 Singapore visa sponsorship. Migrate Mate surfaces employers with verified LCA filing history so you can see which companies have already certified wages for software development roles and are set up to sponsor Singaporean nationals, rather than approaching employers who may be unfamiliar with the H-1B1 process.
How long does H-1B1 Singapore processing take for mobile engineers?
The DOL LCA certification typically completes within seven business days. After that, your employer provides the certified LCA and supporting documents, you complete the DS-160, pay the MRV fee, and schedule your consular interview at the U.S. Embassy in Singapore. Interview scheduling wait times vary by Embassy workload. Premium processing is not available for H-1B1 since there is no USCIS petition stage.
Can I switch mobile engineering employers while on H-1B1 Singapore status?
Yes, but H-1B1 does not carry the same portability rules as H-1B under AC21. When you change employers, the new company must file a fresh certified LCA and you'll generally need to obtain a new H-1B1 visa stamp before or after the transition. Some practitioners advise departing Singapore to obtain the new stamp; consult with your new employer's immigration counsel before making any status change to avoid a gap in authorization.
