Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as a Software Engineering Manager
Map your credentials to O*NET requirements
Pull the Software Engineering Manager occupation profile from O*NET before applying. Confirm your degree field and years of direct team leadership map to the specialty occupation definition, since H-1B1 visa eligibility hinges on that match, not just your job title.
Target employers with existing H-1B1 filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter companies with verified H-1B1 Singapore LCA filings for engineering leadership roles. Employers who've sponsored this visa before have established internal processes and are far less likely to stall your offer over unfamiliarity with the consular route.
Verify the prevailing wage before salary negotiations
Run your target metro area and job title through OFLC Wage Search before you negotiate. Your employer must certify your offered salary meets or exceeds the DOL prevailing wage on the LCA, so knowing the floor in advance prevents last-minute offer adjustments.
Clarify the consular processing timeline with your employer
Unlike H-1B, your employer files no I-129 with USCIS. The process moves to Singapore's U.S. Embassy after the DOL certifies the LCA. Set clear expectations with hiring managers about this two-stage sequence so your start date isn't built around a USCIS premium processing window that doesn't apply.
Confirm your managerial scope satisfies specialty occupation
H-1B1 visa requires that your role primarily demands a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific technical field. If your Software Engineering Manager position is majority people-management with minimal technical contribution, document your architectural review duties, system design ownership, and technical decision authority explicitly in your job description.
Address the dual-intent gap before your interview
H-1B1 visa is a nonimmigrant visa without dual-intent protections, meaning a pending or intended green card application can jeopardize approval at the consulate. If you're already in a PERM or EB-2 pipeline through a prior employer, resolve that conflict in your strategy before your consular interview.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the H-1B1 Singapore visa work for Software Engineering Manager roles specifically?
Yes, provided the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related technical field. Software Engineering Manager positions that include hands-on architectural responsibility, technical leadership, and system design typically satisfy this requirement. Roles that are primarily administrative, with minimal technical contribution, can face scrutiny at the consular interview stage.
How does the H-1B1 Singapore visa compare to the H-1B for engineering managers?
The H-1B1 Singapore visa skips the H-1B lottery entirely and processes at the U.S. Embassy in Singapore rather than through USCIS, which means your employer files no I-129 petition and you avoid premium processing fees. The tradeoff is that H-1B1 lacks dual-intent protections, so it's better suited to professionals not currently pursuing an employment-based green card through a parallel petition.
How do I find U.S. employers willing to sponsor H-1B1 Singapore visas for management roles?
Migrate Mate filters job listings by verified H-1B1 visa LCA filing history, so you can identify companies that have already sponsored this visa for engineering leadership positions rather than cold-pitching companies unfamiliar with the consular process. Employers with existing H-1B1 experience at the manager level are significantly less likely to rescind offers over procedural uncertainty.
Can I switch to a new employer while on H-1B1 status as a Software Engineering Manager?
Yes, but H-1B1 portability rules differ from H-1B. There's no USCIS-approved transfer petition you can file while staying in status. Your new employer must obtain a fresh DOL-certified LCA and you'll need to apply for a new H-1B1 visa stamp at the consulate before starting the new role, which requires planning your transition window carefully.
What documents should a Singaporean engineering manager prepare before applying for H-1B1 sponsorship?
You'll need academic transcripts and degree certificates confirming your field of study, a detailed offer letter specifying your title, duties, and salary, and evidence that your role qualifies as a specialty occupation. Your employer prepares the DOL Labor Condition Application. At the consulate, officers may request organizational charts showing your reporting structure and technical scope of authority alongside standard identity documents.
