Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as a Security Software Engineer
Verify your degree maps to cybersecurity
Consular officers assess whether your academic background directly supports a security engineering role. A degree in computer science or information security aligns cleanly, but a general IT diploma may require supplemental transcripts or a credential evaluation to satisfy specialty occupation criteria.
Search employer LCA filings on Migrate Mate
Pull up Security Software Engineer LCA filings by occupation code on Migrate Mate to see which companies have certified prevailing wages for this exact role. You'll narrow your list to employers who have already done the groundwork for H-1B1 Singapore sponsorship.
Target companies already enrolled in E-Verify
E-Verify enrollment signals an employer has active compliance infrastructure for work-authorization verification. For H-1B1 visa Singapore hires specifically, this means faster onboarding paperwork and fewer delays once your visa is stamped at the consulate.
Request the LCA before your start date
Your employer files the Labor Condition Application with DOL before submitting your consular application package. Confirm the LCA certification is in hand at least two weeks before your interview date so you're not waiting on a government processing queue the week of your appointment.
Benchmark your offer against OFLC Wage Search
Run your job title and work location through OFLC Wage Search before accepting an offer. The LCA must certify a wage at or above the prevailing wage for your role and area, so knowing the threshold helps you negotiate from an informed position and flags any underpayment risk.
Use O*NET to document specialty occupation fit
Pull the Security Software Engineer occupation profile from O*NET and cross-reference the listed education requirements with your actual role duties. If your offer letter describes tasks outside the core security engineering scope, ask your employer to align the job description before the LCA is filed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Security Software Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for the H-1B1 Singapore visa?
Yes. Security Software Engineer roles require theoretical and practical application of highly specialized knowledge, typically a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, cybersecurity, or software engineering. That satisfies the specialty occupation definition. Your employer confirms the requirement in the Labor Condition Application filed with DOL before your consular application.
How does the H-1B1 Singapore visa compare to the H-1B for this role?
For Singaporean nationals, the H-1B visa1 Singapore visa skips the H-1B lottery entirely and is processed directly at the U.S. consulate in Singapore, with no USCIS petition required. The trade-off is that H-1B visa1 status doesn't carry dual intent, so long-term permanent residency planning needs to be handled separately. For a Security Software Engineer who wants to start working in the U.S. quickly, H-1B1 is the more direct route.
Which employers sponsor H-1B1 Singapore visas for Security Software Engineers?
Migrate Mate filters job listings by verified LCA filing history, so you can see which companies have certified prevailing wages specifically for security engineering roles under the H-1B1 Singapore visa category. That gives you a practical shortlist of active sponsors rather than having to cold-apply and ask about sponsorship after the fact.
Can I switch employers after entering the U.S. on an H-1B1 Singapore visa?
Yes, but each employer change requires a new Labor Condition Application and a new consular application. Unlike H-1B portability under AC21, there's no mechanism to begin working for the new employer while the paperwork is pending. You'll need your new employer's LCA certified and your updated visa stamp in hand before the transition, so plan the timeline carefully.
What documents does a Singaporean Security Software Engineer need for the H-1B1 consular interview?
You'll need a certified LCA from DOL, a written job offer or employment letter detailing your role and duties, academic transcripts confirming your qualifying degree, a valid passport, and your DS-160 confirmation. If your degree is from a Singaporean institution, bring certified translations or a credential evaluation if the field of study isn't immediately apparent from the transcript.
