Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as a Security Engineer
Map your credentials to SOC codes
Security Engineer roles span multiple Standard Occupational Classification codes, including Information Security Analysts and Software Quality Assurance Engineers. Pull the O*NET profile for each code to confirm your degree field and job duties align before applying.
Target employers with active LCA filings
Search Migrate Mate to find employers who have already filed Labor Condition Applications for Security Engineer roles. Prior filings signal that HR and legal teams understand H-1B1 Singapore sponsorship and won't treat your application as a first-time experiment.
Request a specialty occupation confirmation in writing
Before signing an offer, ask the employer to confirm in writing that the Security Engineer role requires a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field. This language protects you if the consular officer questions whether the position qualifies as a specialty occupation.
Verify your employer's E-Verify enrollment status
H-1B1 visa holders are authorized for U.S. employment, but some federal contractors and government-adjacent security firms require E-Verify participation. Confirm enrollment before your start date to avoid delays in onboarding clearance-sensitive roles.
Time your LCA filing around consulate appointment slots
The DOL certifies LCAs within seven business days. Ask your employer to file early so certification lands before you book your consulate appointment. Gaps between LCA certification and your interview window are the most common scheduling friction in H-1B1 Singapore cases.
Use OFLC Wage Search to validate your prevailing wage tier
Security Engineer salaries vary significantly by specialization and metro area. Run the OFLC Wage Search for your exact SOC code and work location before your offer negotiation so you can verify the employer's offered wage meets the DOL prevailing wage requirement for your level.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Security Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for the H-1B1 Singapore visa?
Yes, provided the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field such as computer science, cybersecurity, or information systems. Roles that accept any bachelor's degree regardless of field can face consular scrutiny. Your offer letter and employer's LCA should explicitly state the required degree field to support the specialty occupation determination.
How does the H-1B1 Singapore visa differ from the H-1B for Security Engineers?
The H-1B1 Singapore visa skips the lottery entirely and is processed at the U.S. consulate in Singapore, not through USCIS. The annual cap is 5,400 visas and has never been fully used. The tradeoff is that the H-1B1 is granted in one-year increments and doesn't carry dual intent, which matters if you're weighing long-term immigration options alongside your Security Engineer career.
How do I find Security Engineer employers who already know how to sponsor the H-1B1 Singapore visa?
Migrate Mate filters job listings by employers with verified H-1B1 Singapore LCA filing history, so you're not cold-applying to companies that have never navigated the process. Security Engineer roles in financial services, defense contracting, and enterprise software tend to have the most active sponsoring employers on the platform.
Can I switch Security Engineer employers while on an H-1B1 Singapore visa?
Yes, but each employer change requires a new LCA filing and a new consulate appointment for a fresh H-1B1 visa stamp. Unlike H-1B visa portability, there's no USCIS petition transfer mechanism. Plan for a gap between your last day with the current employer and your new start date, since your authorization is tied to the specific employer listed on your visa.
What documentation should a Singaporean Security Engineer prepare before the consulate interview?
Bring the certified LCA, your offer letter confirming the specialty occupation and wage, your academic transcripts showing a relevant technical degree, and your Singaporean passport. If your degree title doesn't map obviously to cybersecurity or information security, a credential evaluation letter from a recognized evaluator helps the consular officer confirm equivalency without additional questioning.
