Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as an Administrative Assistant
Document your administrative credentials before applying
Gather diplomas, employer letters, and any records confirming office or data-entry experience on agricultural operations. H-2A visa employers must verify that no qualified domestic workers are available, so a clear credential file speeds up their DOL recruitment reporting.
Target farms with existing H-2A filing history
Search Migrate Mate to filter agricultural employers who have previously filed H-2A petitions for administrative support roles. Employers already familiar with the H-2A process move faster and are less likely to withdraw an offer mid-filing.
Confirm the job order covers administrative duties explicitly
Ask the employer to show you their DOL-certified job order before you accept. If your duties include payroll entry, recordkeeping, or compliance tracking, those tasks must be listed or your visa scope could be questioned on arrival.
Verify the offered wage against the AEWR for your state
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the current Adverse Effect Wage Rate for your work state and agricultural occupational category. If the employer's offered wage falls below that rate, DOL will not certify the application.
Confirm housing is provided and includes internet access
H-2A employers must provide free housing that meets federal or state standards. Administrative roles often require remote system access, so confirm before signing whether the provided housing has reliable connectivity for payroll software or farm management platforms.
Understand the petition timeline before resigning current work
USCIS must approve the H-2A petition and your consulate must issue the visa before you can enter the U.S. to work. Don't finalize a departure date until the employer has received their USCIS receipt notice and your interview is scheduled.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Administrative Assistant jobs that offer H-2A visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lists agricultural employers with verified H-2A filing history, so you can search specifically for Administrative Assistant openings tied to active sponsorship. Because H-2A positions are seasonal and time-limited, new postings appear throughout the year as planting and harvest cycles shift, so checking regularly matters.
What obligations does an H-2A employer have for an Administrative Assistant role?
Your employer must provide free housing that meets federal or state safety standards, pay inbound and outbound transportation costs, and guarantee wages for at least three-quarters of the contract period. They must also carry workers' compensation insurance and file a certified job order with DOL before USCIS can approve your petition.
Does an Administrative Assistant role qualify as agricultural work under H-2A rules?
It can, if the position directly supports an agricultural operation and the employer classifies it under an eligible agricultural occupational category in their DOL job order. Roles involving payroll, crop recordkeeping, or compliance documentation for a farm or processing facility are typically acceptable. Purely commercial office work unconnected to agricultural production generally does not qualify.
Can I extend my H-2A status if the employer wants to keep me after the harvest season ends?
H-2A status can be extended in one-year increments up to a maximum of three consecutive years, but the position must remain seasonal or temporary in nature. If the employer needs you year-round in a permanent capacity, H-2A no longer applies and a different visa category would be required. Extensions require a new DOL job order and USCIS petition.
