Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Roofing Jobs
Gather documentation proving roofing experience
Collect reference letters, past employment records, and any safety certifications like OSHA 10 or fall-protection training before applying. H-2A visa employers filling roofing roles prioritize documented hands-on experience because the DOL job order must list specific skill requirements.
Search verified H-2A roofing openings on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to find roofing positions where employers have active H-2A sponsorship history. Filtering by verified sponsorship status saves time you'd otherwise spend contacting employers who've never filed an H-2A petition.
Target agricultural operations with roofing maintenance needs
Large farms, nurseries, and greenhouse operations regularly sponsor H-2A workers for seasonal roofing and structural repair roles. These employers often have established relationships with DOL and move through the certification process faster than first-time petitioners.
Confirm the employer has filed a DOL job order
Before committing to an offer, verify the employer submitted a job order through the DOL's Foreign Labor Application Gateway. An approved job order is a prerequisite for H-2A certification, and a legitimate employer will share it with you before you travel.
Understand your housing and transport entitlements
H-2A employers must provide free housing that meets federal or state safety standards and cover inbound and outbound transportation costs. If a roofing employer asks you to pay for either, that violates DOL H-2A requirements and is a red flag.
Check the AEWR for your work state before signing
The Adverse Effect Wage Rate varies by state and is updated annually by the DOL. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the current AEWR for the state where your roofing job is located, then confirm your offer matches or exceeds it.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find roofing jobs with H-2A visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the recommended way to search. It surfaces roofing positions where employers have verified H-2A sponsorship history, so you're not wasting time on openings that can't support a visa petition. You can filter by job type and sponsorship status to find active seasonal roofing roles that have already cleared DOL requirements or are in the process of doing so.
What are an H-2A employer's obligations for roofing workers?
H-2A employers must provide free housing that meets federal or state occupational safety standards, cover the cost of your inbound travel to the worksite and return travel home at the end of the contract, and pay at least the Adverse Effect Wage Rate for your state, which the DOL updates annually. They must also carry workers' compensation insurance and cannot charge you recruitment fees.
Does roofing qualify as an agricultural job under H-2A?
It can, depending on the employer and the nature of the work. Roofing performed as part of maintaining agricultural facilities, such as barns, greenhouses, or storage structures on a farm, generally qualifies under H-2A. Purely commercial or residential roofing unconnected to agricultural operations typically does not. The employer's DOL job order will specify whether the role meets H-2A agricultural definitions.
How long does H-2A sponsorship last for a roofing position?
H-2A petitions are granted for the duration of the certified temporary or seasonal need, up to a maximum of three years. Most roofing contracts run one season, typically three to nine months, and can be extended if the employer re-certifies the continued labor need with USCIS and the DOL. You must depart the U.S. when your authorized period ends unless the employer files a timely extension.
