Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as a Mechanic
Search verified H-2A employers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter mechanic roles by employers with active H-2A DOL filing history. That history confirms the operation has run compliant seasonal programs before, which reduces your risk of a last-minute job order withdrawal.
Target operations with large equipment fleets
Large farms running combines, pivot irrigation rigs, or refrigerated transport trucks file H-2A mechanic positions more consistently than small operations. Concentrate your outreach on orchards, grain operations, and vegetable farms with 500-plus acres under cultivation.
Verify the job order covers your start window
H-2A job orders specify exact employment start and end dates tied to the crop cycle. Before accepting an offer, confirm your travel and visa appointment timeline fits inside that window. DOL does not extend certified orders after the season closes.
Get your mechanic certifications translated and notarized
If your trade credentials, apprenticeship records, or equipment manufacturer certifications are in a language other than English, have them professionally translated and notarized before the employer submits the I-129 petition. Missing documents delay USCIS processing.
Ask the employer about housing location upfront
H-2A employers must provide free housing, but the location can be 30-plus miles from the worksite. Confirm commute arrangements before signing your work contract so there are no surprises once you arrive on the operation.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find mechanic jobs with H-2A visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find mechanic roles where the employer has already filed H-2A petitions with DOL. You can filter by job title and visa type to see operations with verified sponsorship history. Avoid applying to postings that don't confirm DOL job order certification, since that certification must exist before your visa petition can be filed.
What are the employer's obligations to me under H-2A as a mechanic?
Your employer must provide free housing for the duration of your contract, pay daily subsistence and transportation costs from your home country to the worksite, and pay at least the Adverse Effect Wage Rate for your state, which DOL sets annually. They must also cover return transportation when the season ends and cannot charge you any recruitment fees.
Does my mechanic experience need to be in agriculture specifically?
Not necessarily, but your resume should demonstrate hands-on experience with equipment types common in farming, such as diesel engines, hydraulic systems, PTO-driven implements, or irrigation pumps. Employers filing H-2A petitions must justify that your skills match the certified job duties, so general automotive mechanic experience alone may not satisfy the DOL job order description without additional documentation of relevant equipment work.
Is the H-2A mechanic position truly temporary, and what happens when it ends?
H-2A status is tied to the certified employment period, which cannot exceed three years including extensions. When the season ends, you must depart the U.S. unless the employer files for an extension covering a new season. There is no pathway from H-2A directly to permanent residence, and overstaying your authorized period creates bars to future U.S. visa eligibility.
