Verify your management credentials transfer cleanly
H-2B visa petitions require the employer to document the role's specific duties and your qualifications. Gather performance reviews, org charts showing your direct reports, and any hospitality certifications before you start applying, since gaps slow DOL certification.
Target employers who file H-2B repeatedly
Seasonal resort groups and ski destination properties that have sponsored H-2B workers before already know the DOL labor certification timeline. Search Migrate Mate to filter Hotel Manager roles by employers with verified H-2B filing history.
Apply before the semi-annual cap windows close
The 66,000 annual cap splits into two halves: 33,000 for October through March start dates and 33,000 for April through September. Employers must submit DOL applications well ahead of your intended start date, so confirm filing timelines with any employer before accepting an offer.
Confirm the prevailing wage covers your offered salary
DOL requires employers to pay at least the prevailing wage for your location and job level. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up Hotel Manager rates in your target city so you can flag underpayment before the petition reaches USCIS.
Check that your job duties match O*NET exactly
USCIS and DOL assess whether your day-to-day responsibilities match the Hotel Manager occupation definition in O*NET. If your role blends front-desk supervision with broader property management, ask the employer to document both functions clearly in the petition to avoid a request for evidence.
Clarify seasonal end dates before signing anything
H-2B status is tied to the specific temporary need the employer certified with DOL. If the property extends its season, the employer must file an amended petition. Confirm in writing how the employer handles season extensions before you commit.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Hotel Manager jobs with H-2B visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for workers seeking U.S. jobs with visa sponsorship. You can search Hotel Manager roles filtered by employers who have filed H-2B petitions, so you're targeting properties that have already navigated the DOL labor certification process rather than cold-applying to employers unfamiliar with the visa.
How does the H-2B annual cap affect Hotel Manager applicants?
The H-2B program is capped at 66,000 visas per fiscal year, split into two 33,000-visa halves by season. Demand regularly exceeds supply, and USCIS uses a lottery when petitions surpass the cap in the first five business days of eligibility. Employers filing for summer hotel season roles typically submit DOL applications three to four months before your start date, so early outreach to properties is essential.
Can a Hotel Manager role qualify as a temporary position under H-2B rules?
Yes, but the employer must demonstrate to DOL that the need is genuinely temporary, not a permanent staffing gap. Seasonal hotels and ski resorts qualify because their operational demand is tied to a recurring peak period. Properties seeking a year-round general manager face a much harder certification path than those documenting a defined summer or winter season.
What happens to my H-2B status if the hotel season ends early?
Your H-2B status is authorized only for the period and employer stated in the approved petition. If the property closes early, your status ends with your employment. You have a grace period of up to 10 days after the authorized stay expires to depart the United States, and there is no automatic transfer to another employer without a new approved H-2B petition.
