Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as a Restaurant General Manager
Document your management credentials early
Gather proof of supervisory experience, food safety certifications, and any relevant licensing before you start applying. H-2B visa petitions require employers to demonstrate your qualifications, and gaps in documentation cause delays.
Target employers with defined seasonal schedules
Focus on resort hotels, national park concessionaires, and beach destination restaurants that close or scale down off-season. These operations have a documented temporary need, which is the DOL's core requirement for H-2B certification.
Search verified H-2B employers on Migrate Mate
Pull up Restaurant General Manager roles filtered by H-2B sponsorship history on Migrate Mate. You'll see which employers have filed Labor Condition Applications before, so you're not guessing about their willingness to sponsor.
Understand the cap's split-season structure
The 66,000 annual cap divides evenly between October-March and April-September start dates. Apply with employers targeting the relevant half-year window, since exhausted caps in one half don't roll over to the other.
Ask employers about their prevailing wage compliance
Before accepting an offer, confirm the employer has verified the prevailing wage using the OFLC Wage Search for your specific county and occupation code. A wage below the DOL-certified rate can trigger certification denial.
Confirm the employer's E-Verify enrollment status
H-2B workers must be work-authorized through E-Verify once employed. Ask your prospective employer whether they're enrolled before the petition is filed, since non-compliance can disrupt your start date and visa validity.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Restaurant General Manager jobs with H-2B sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search Restaurant General Manager openings filtered specifically for H-2B visa sponsorship. Rather than sorting through listings where sponsorship status is unclear, you can see which employers have an active H-2B filing history for management-level roles and reach out with confidence.
Does the H-2B annual cap affect my chances of getting sponsored as a Restaurant General Manager?
Yes, directly. The H-2B cap is set at 66,000 visas per fiscal year, split into two halves based on employment start dates. Demand frequently exhausts each half early. Employers need to file their DOL temporary labor certification well ahead of your intended start date, so late negotiations with a prospective employer can push you past the filing window entirely.
Can I hold an H-2B visa as a Restaurant General Manager if my role includes year-round duties?
No. The H-2B visa requires the employer to demonstrate a temporary or seasonal need, not permanent operational demand. If a restaurant runs year-round at full capacity, it won't qualify for H-2B certification. Your sponsoring employer must show USCIS that the General Manager position is genuinely tied to a peak or seasonal period with a defined end date.
What happens if my H-2B status ends before the restaurant's season is officially over?
Your authorized stay is tied to the end date listed on your I-94, not the employer's internal schedule. If the season runs long, your employer must file an H-2B extension with USCIS before your current status expires. Extensions require demonstrating that the temporary need continues beyond the original certified period and are not guaranteed.
