H-2B Visa Banquet Cook Jobs
Banquet Cook jobs are among the most reliably sponsored H-2B visa roles in U.S. hospitality, with hotels, resorts, and event venues filing for seasonal workers every winter and summer cycle. Employers must secure DOL labor certification before petitioning USCIS, so finding a position with confirmed H-2B visa sponsorship before the cap fills is essential.

Document your catering and banquet experience
Compile employment records, chef references, and any food handler certifications before applying. H-2B employers need to demonstrate the temporary nature of the role, and your prior banquet kitchen experience strengthens the employer's DOL filing.
Target resort and hotel groups with recurring H-2B filings
Large seasonal resorts and convention hotel groups file H-2B petitions every cycle rather than just occasionally. Prioritizing employers with an established sponsorship history means the labor certification and USCIS petition process is already familiar to their HR teams.
Search verified H-2B banquet cook openings on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters listings by verified H-2B sponsorship status, so you're not applying blindly to employers who haven't confirmed they'll file. Use it to find banquet cook roles at properties that have already secured or are actively pursuing DOL certification.
Apply well before the January and July cap deadlines
The 66,000 annual H-2B cap splits into two halves: 33,000 for October through March start dates and 33,000 for April through September. Banquet cook demand peaks around holidays, so employers in high-volume event markets exhaust their cap allocation quickly.
Confirm the employer has filed the labor certification with DOL
Before accepting any offer, ask whether the employer has already submitted or received certification from DOL through the Foreign Labor Application Gateway. An offer without a certified application in progress offers no guarantee of sponsorship.
Verify your employer is E-Verify enrolled before you arrive
H-2B workers must be authorized through E-Verify once on-site. Confirming your employer is actively enrolled before you travel avoids onboarding delays that can affect your first scheduled banquet shifts and your immigration record.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find banquet cook jobs with H-2B visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to search banquet cook openings that include confirmed H-2B sponsorship. Standard job boards mix sponsored and non-sponsored listings without filtering, which wastes time. Migrate Mate surfaces employers actively filing or approved for H-2B labor certification, so you can focus on roles where sponsorship is already part of the offer.
How does the H-2B cap affect banquet cook hiring timelines?
The H-2B program allows 66,000 visas annually, split evenly between the two fiscal half-years. Banquet cook demand clusters around holiday event seasons, meaning employers in resort markets often reach their allocation within days of USCIS opening the filing window. Starting your search three to four months before your intended start date gives employers enough runway to complete the DOL labor certification and USCIS petition before cap numbers close.
What credentials do I need to qualify as an H-2B banquet cook?
H-2B does not require a formal culinary degree, but employers must demonstrate to DOL that the role is genuinely temporary and that no qualified U.S. workers are available. In practice, banquet cook applicants benefit from documented prior experience in high-volume kitchen environments, food safety certifications, and references from previous banquet or catering employers that confirm your role-specific skills.
Can I change banquet cook employers while on H-2B status?
H-2B status is employer-specific, meaning your authorization is tied to the petitioning employer named in the USCIS approval. Changing employers mid-season requires the new employer to file a separate H-2B petition and receive approval before you begin work. Gaps between employment are not permitted, so any employer transition must be planned carefully and coordinated with USCIS.
