Position Overview

The Client is seeking an experienced Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist who has a strong understanding of industrial EHS practices and is comfortable working within established safety systems and processes.

The selected candidate will support an active machine guarding initiative at the Tampa facility, so practical knowledge of machine safety and applicable regulatory requirements will be highly valuable.

Candidates with hands-on experience in Machine Guarding, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and Confined Space programs will be strongly preferred.

This is an industrial facility, and the selected individual must be comfortable wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including:

• Safety footwear
• Safety glasses or other required eye protection
• Hearing protection in designated areas
• Long-sleeved shirts
• Full-length pants

The selected candidate may be eligible for reimbursement for required safety footwear in accordance with Client policy.

Job Summary

The EHS Specialist will provide technical and operational support for Environmental, Health, and Safety activities at the Client's plant.

Using established procedures, regulatory requirements, and professional EHS knowledge, this individual will help coordinate, implement, monitor, and continuously improve the facility's environmental, health, and safety programs and management systems.

The position works closely with Plant Management, Production, Maintenance, Engineering, Human Resources, and Corporate EHS teams and will support multiple safety initiatives, compliance activities, investigations, audits, training programs, and improvement projects.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

• Promote safe work practices throughout the facility and help ensure employees follow established Client safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Support the facility's machine guarding, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space, and other workplace safety programs.
• Conduct workplace inspections, field observations, safety audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and opportunities for improvement.
• Review workplace accidents, incidents, and near misses and assist with determining appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
• Work with plant leadership to ensure incident investigations are completed promptly and thoroughly, including identification of root causes and measures to prevent recurrence.
• Track EHS corrective actions and follow up with appropriate departments to support timely resolution of identified issues.
• Maintain and review environmental, health, and safety documentation to help ensure plant records remain accurate, current, and compliant.
• Collaborate with Plant Management, Production, Engineering, and Maintenance teams to identify and address facility or equipment-related safety concerns.
• Serve as an on-site EHS resource and provide day-to-day support for the facility's EHS management system and safety initiatives.
• Partner with EHS program owners and champions to conduct periodic self-assessments and evaluate compliance with Client EHS requirements and applicable regulations.
• Help integrate Corporate EHS standards and management practices into daily plant operations.
• Identify facility-specific EHS needs and recommend appropriate changes or improvements to existing safety processes and management systems.
• Use the Client's EHS Enterprise System (Gensuite) to document, monitor, and analyze accidents, incidents, corrective actions, and other relevant EHS information.
• Analyze EHS trends and data to identify potential risks and recommend proactive measures to reduce workplace incidents.
• Work closely with plant leadership, supervisors, and employees to identify and reduce environmental, health, and safety risks.
• Support the EHS portion of new-hire orientation and help ensure required employee safety training is completed and properly documented.
• Communicate findings from inspections, investigations, audits, and risk assessments to plant leadership and other affected stakeholders.
• Recommend updates to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), training materials, and safety tools based on incident trends, observations, and EHS data.
• Coordinate with Human Resources and Corporate EHS regarding Workers' Compensation cases and help ensure cases are handled in accordance with Client requirements.
• Work with external vendors, consultants, and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) when specialized EHS knowledge or services are required.
• Assist with environmental and sustainability assessments and related improvement initiatives at the plant.
• Support the implementation, coordination, and documentation of Health and Safety training across departments, including Production, Engineering, Maintenance, and Administration.
• Collaborate with plant leadership on capital planning activities to help incorporate EHS and sustainability considerations into engineering and capital improvement projects.
• Provide EHS guidance and technical support to employees and management as needed.
• Perform additional EHS-related responsibilities and projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science, Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or another closely related discipline.
• 3–5 years of professional experience supporting or managing Environmental, Health, and Safety programs in a workplace or industrial environment.
• Working knowledge of OSHA requirements and regulations, workplace safety programs, PPE requirements, and general safety compliance practices.
• Understanding of environmental requirements and EPA-related regulations and policies applicable to industrial operations.
• Practical knowledge of accident and incident investigation techniques, root-cause analysis, workplace inspections, and corrective action processes.
• Experience working with Machine Guarding, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and Confined Space requirements is highly desirable.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with employees, supervisors, plant leadership, and external stakeholders.
• Proficiency with common business applications, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
• Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a cross-functional team.
• Ability to work flexible hours when business or operational requirements require it.
• Ability to travel for business purposes when necessary.
• Ability to work safely within an industrial/manufacturing environment and wear all required PPE.

Preferred Qualifications

A Master's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Safety Management, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or a related discipline is preferred but not required.

Professional certifications are also considered an asset, including:

• Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
• Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
• Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
• Certified Environmental Professional (CEP)

There will be two rounds of interviews.

Pay: $40.00 - $42.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
