HVAC Jobs in Portland: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a hvac job in Portland?
Your strongest path into Portland hvac work runs through commercial construction and facilities management, where demand is consistently high across hospital campuses, mixed-use developments, and the city's growing multifamily housing stock. Contractors serving the Pearl District, South Waterfront, and Lloyd District redevelopment projects hire regularly. Candidates with sheet metal or refrigeration crossover skills and familiarity with energy-efficiency codes common in Portland buildings stand out quickly.
Which companies hire hvacs in Portland?
Companies currently hiring hvacs in Portland include Sun Glow Inc., HVACR & Plumbing, Sunset Heating, Cooling & Electrical, and Jacobs, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Portland's market includes a mix of regional mechanical contractors, large property management firms, and healthcare systems with in-house facilities teams.
Are there remote hvac jobs in Portland?
Remote work is rare for hvac roles because the work is fundamentally hands-on and site-based. About 33% of hvac openings tied to Portland are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions tend to be estimating, project coordination, or controls engineering roles rather than installation or service technician work.
How can I get a hvac job in Portland with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point in Portland is an apprenticeship through a union hall or a helper position with a regional mechanical contractor doing commercial work downtown or in the industrial eastside. Portland employers doing new construction and tenant improvement projects hire entry-level helpers who can learn on the job. Having a valid Oregon Career Development Center trade certificate or completion of a community college HVAC program gives applicants a concrete edge over candidates with no credentials.
