HVAC Jobs in Oregon: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a hvac in Oregon?
To work as an hvac technician in Oregon you must register with the Oregon Construction Contractors Board and obtain the appropriate mechanical contractor or journeyman license for your scope of work. Most technicians complete a four-year apprenticeship through a program affiliated with Oregon's HVAC contractors association or attend an accredited trade school, then pass the state mechanical licensing exam. EPA Section 608 certification is also required before handling refrigerants independently.
Which companies hire hvacs in Oregon?
Companies currently hiring hvacs in Oregon include Sun Glow Inc., HVACR & Plumbing, Sunset Heating, Cooling & Electrical, and Jacobs, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Oregon's large commercial and industrial base, along with the state's active new construction in the Portland metro, means many of these employers are hiring for both installation crews and service technicians year-round.
Which Oregon cities have the most hvac jobs?
Portland, Salem, and Eugene have the most hvac openings in Oregon. Portland's dense commercial real estate market and ongoing multifamily construction drive the highest concentration of postings, while Eugene's university and healthcare campuses and Salem's state government facilities and light-industrial base sustain consistent demand outside the metro.
Are there remote hvac jobs in Oregon?
Yes, but they're rare. Hvac work is fundamentally hands-on and site-dependent, so most roles require a physical presence. About 17% of hvac openings tied to Oregon are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions are almost exclusively in estimating, project management, or building automation programming rather than installation or service.
How can I get hired as a hvac in Oregon with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to a registered apprenticeship program through an Oregon-based mechanical or sheet metal contractor, where you earn while you learn under journeyman supervision. Larger employers such as commercial mechanical contractors in the Portland metro regularly take on first-year apprentices. Candidates who have completed even a semester of a community college HVAC program, hold an EPA 608 certification, or come from related trades such as plumbing or electrical have a clear advantage at the application stage.
Where can I find and apply to hvac jobs in Oregon?
You can find and apply to hvac jobs in Oregon on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings for roles that match your license level, specialty, and location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
