HVAC Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a hvac in Texas?
To work as an hvac technician in Texas, you must hold an HVAC contractor license issued by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, known as TDLR. The path typically starts with completing an accredited HVAC program at a Texas community college or trade school, followed by on-the-job hours as a registered apprentice or technician. You must also hold an EPA Section 608 certification to handle refrigerants, which is federally required regardless of state.
How much do HVACs make in Texas?
HVACs in Texas earn a median of about $57,760 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $38,100 for the lowest 10% to over $81,860 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire hvacs in Texas?
Employers hiring hvacs in Texas right now include Johnson Controls, Trane Technologies, and ENFRA, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's combination of year-round demand, large commercial construction activity, and a dense base of industrial facilities means established regional and national contractors consistently maintain open rolls across the state.
Which Texas cities have the most hvac jobs?
Houston, Austin, and San Antonio have the most hvac openings in Texas, reflecting where population density, commercial construction, and major employer footprints are strongest. Houston's energy and industrial corridor, Dallas-Fort Worth's rapid suburban expansion, and San Antonio's steady residential growth and large military installation base all generate consistent demand for installation, service, and maintenance technicians.
Are there remote hvac jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. HVAC work is fundamentally hands-on and tied to physical equipment, so the overwhelming majority of roles require on-site presence. About 4% of hvac openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions are typically in estimating, project management, or building automation system design rather than direct service or installation work.
How can I get hired as a hvac in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly as a helper or apprentice through a TDLR-registered apprenticeship program, which large Texas contractors like Comfort Systems USA and regional mechanical firms regularly run. Community colleges across Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio offer short-term HVAC certificate programs that prepare candidates for entry roles. Earning your EPA Section 608 certification before applying gives you a clear edge and signals to Texas employers that you are ready to work with refrigerants from day one.
Where can I find and apply to hvac jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to hvac jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings from employers actively hiring right now. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience, location, and specialty, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
