Overview
MSA Professional Services is seeking a Project Engineer – Mechanical (HVAC Design) to support the planning, design, and delivery of building systems projects.
This role is ideal for a mid-level engineer who brings strong technical expertise and is ready to take ownership of project components with minimal oversight. You will collaborate with Project Managers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality HVAC system designs while contributing to client relationships and mentoring junior staff.

Responsibilities
Technical Design & Execution
- Lead the design and development of HVAC systems for commercial and institutional building projects
- Perform and review engineering calculations, system layouts, and equipment selections
- Prepare construction documents, specifications, and technical reports
- Ensure deliverables meet quality standards and QA/QC requirements
Project Execution
- Lead assigned project components through planning, design, and construction phases
- Monitor scope, schedule, and budget; proactively identify and address issues
- Coordinate with internal teams and integrate work from junior staff and technical support
- Take ownership of deliverables and ensure timely, accurate completion
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as a key point of contact for assigned tasks or projects
- Lead or support client meetings to present technical updates and coordinate deliverables
- Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies
- Support proposal development and business development efforts
Construction & Field Support
- Conduct site visits and support construction-phase services
- Review construction progress and resolve technical challenges in the field
- Document observations and ensure alignment with design intent and specifications
Mentorship & Team Development
- Mentor junior engineers and designers through technical guidance and work review
- Support team collaboration and knowledge sharing
- Contribute to continuous improvement of processes and project delivery
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
Experience
4+ years of relevant engineering experience
Licensure
Professional Engineer (PE) license required (or ability to obtain)
Skills
- Experience designing HVAC systems for building projects
- Strong understanding of mechanical codes, standards, and industry practices
- Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and HVAC design/modeling tools
- Strong technical writing and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple project priorities and deadlines
- Understanding of project budgets, schedules, and overall project performance
