Fleet Technician Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a fleet technician in Texas?
Most fleet technicians in Texas enter through a diesel technology or automotive program at a community college or technical school, then pursue ASE certification in medium and heavy truck categories. Texas does not require a state-issued mechanic license, but many employers require or strongly prefer ASE credentials. A commercial driver's license is a common additional requirement for roles that involve moving vehicles on public roads.
How much do fleet technicians make in Texas?
Fleet technicians in Texas earn a median of about $58,810 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $40,930 for the lowest 10% to over $81,660 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire fleet technicians in Texas?
Employers hiring fleet technicians in Texas right now include Houston Methodist, Loram, and Methodist Healthcare System, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of logistics hubs, oil-field service companies, and large municipal governments creates consistent demand across private fleets and public sector operations alike.
Which Texas cities have the most fleet technician jobs?
Houston, Austin, and San Antonio have the most fleet technician openings in Texas. Dallas-Fort Worth's role as a national distribution hub and Houston's energy and port logistics industry drive the bulk of demand, while San Antonio's large military installations, city fleet, and regional trucking corridor support a steady secondary market.
Are there remote fleet technician jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Fleet technician work is fundamentally hands-on, requiring physical access to vehicles, equipment, and shop tools that can't be performed remotely. About 2% of fleet technician openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions are almost exclusively in fleet coordination, inspection management, or technical support roles rather than direct repair work.
How can I get hired as a fleet technician in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a lube technician or fleet service writer role, which large Texas operators like Ryder and the City of Houston use as a direct pipeline into full technician positions. Completing a diesel technology certificate at institutions like Texas State Technical College gives candidates a concrete credential employers recognize. Apprenticeship-style on-the-job training programs are common at municipal fleet departments across Texas, and candidates who arrive with a CDL learner's permit stand out even before earning their first ASE certification.
Where can I find and apply to fleet technician jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to fleet technician jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Find roles that match your experience and location, then apply directly to the employers posting them.
