Electrical Maintenance Technician Jobs in Oregon: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a electrical maintenance technician in Oregon?
Oregon requires most industrial electricians to hold a license issued by the Oregon Building Codes Division, which oversees electrical licensing statewide. The typical path is completing a state-approved apprenticeship through the Oregon Electrical Apprenticeship program or a community college electromechanical technology program, then passing the Oregon Journeyman or Limited Maintenance Electrician exam. Candidates without a degree can qualify through apprenticeship hours combined with the licensing exam.
How much do electrical maintenance technicians make in Oregon?
Electrical maintenance technicians in Oregon earn a median of about $91,910 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $63,580 for the lowest 10% to over $111,530 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire electrical maintenance technicians in Oregon?
Oregon electrical maintenance technician roles are posted by Apple, Jacobs, and Affiliated Engineers and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Oregon's concentration of semiconductor fabs, paper mills, food processing plants, and investor-owned utilities means large industrial employers consistently maintain open maintenance technician positions throughout the year.
Which Oregon cities have the most electrical maintenance technician jobs?
Portland, Hillsboro, and Bend post the most electrical maintenance technician openings in Oregon. Portland drives volume through its dense manufacturing base and Intel's large Hillsboro campus, while Salem and the Willamette Valley corridor produce openings tied to food processing facilities, agricultural equipment operations, and regional utilities that run continuous production schedules requiring round-the-clock maintenance coverage.
Are there remote electrical maintenance technician jobs in Oregon?
Yes, but they're rare. About 34% of electrical maintenance technician openings tied to Oregon are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the fact that most of the work requires hands-on presence at a plant, facility, or job site. The roles most likely to include any remote component are engineering support, SCADA monitoring, or technical training coordination positions.
How can I get hired as a electrical maintenance technician in Oregon with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is enrolling in an Oregon Electrical Apprenticeship program, which pays wages from day one while you accumulate the hours needed for licensure. Portland Community College and Lane Community College both offer electromechanical and industrial maintenance technology programs that large Oregon employers recognize when hiring helpers and apprentice-level technicians. Candidates coming from adjacent roles such as production operator, facilities maintenance helper, or HVAC service apprentice have a clear lateral path in, and earning a Limited Maintenance Electrician license from the Oregon Building Codes Division gives an early-career candidate a measurable edge over unlicensed applicants.
