Information Security Manager Jobs in Washington: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a information security manager job in Washington?
Washington's information security manager market is driven by federal contracting, defense, and the agencies clustered across the Federal Triangle and Southwest Waterfront. Candidates with security clearances, FedRAMP experience, or familiarity with NIST frameworks move fastest here. Targeting mid-size defense contractors in the Rosslyn-Ballston corridor and civilian agencies on Capitol Hill gives you the most concentrated pool of openings relative to any other sector in the city.
Which companies hire information security managers in Washington?
Employers hiring information security managers in Washington right now include MTSI, Everforth ECS, and SMX, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Washington's employer base skews heavily toward government contractors, federal civilian agencies, and specialized cybersecurity firms that serve the public sector.
Are there remote information security manager jobs in Washington?
Yes, though with limits, since information security manager roles tied to classified systems or government facilities typically require on-site presence. About 11% of information security manager openings tied to Washington are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with remote options most common in policy, risk governance, and compliance-focused positions rather than hands-on infrastructure or cleared roles.
How can I get a information security manager job in Washington with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Washington is moving through an analyst or security operations center role at a mid-size federal contractor, where promotion timelines into management are shorter than at large primes. Washington-area contractors frequently hire entry-level analysts with CompTIA Security+ or equivalent certifications and advance them internally. Familiarity with federal compliance frameworks like FISMA or NIST 800-53 gives candidates a meaningful edge in this market over generic cybersecurity credentials.
Which industries hire the most information security managers in Washington?
Washington information security manager roles concentrate in Education, Telecommunications, and Aerospace & Defense, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Washington's unique position as the seat of federal government means defense contracting and civilian agency work generate outsized demand compared to virtually any other U.S. city of similar size.
