Entry Level Information Security Specialist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level information security specialist job?
Employers hiring at this level look for foundational certifications like CompTIA Security+ or Google's Cybersecurity Certificate alongside practical experience from labs, internships, or academic projects. Building a home lab, completing capture-the-flag challenges, and documenting your work in a portfolio gives you a concrete edge over candidates who only list coursework. Tailoring your resume to the specific tools and frameworks each job posting names also helps.
Which companies hire entry level information security specialists?
Companies hiring entry level information security specialists right now include Walmart, Booz Allen Hamilton, and Watermark Risk Management International, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Government contractors, financial institutions, healthcare systems, and managed security service providers tend to hire consistently at this level, often as part of structured early-career programs.
Are there remote entry level information security specialist jobs?
Yes, though on-site roles still dominate at this level. About 25% of entry level information security specialist openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those roles tend to concentrate in companies with established security operations centers or distributed IT teams that have the infrastructure to onboard and mentor junior staff remotely.
Are these new grad information security specialist jobs?
Yes. The listings on this page include new grad, recent graduate, and junior roles that explicitly welcome candidates with little or no professional experience. A posting is new-grad friendly when it asks for zero to two years of experience, accepts internship work or academic projects as qualifying experience, or treats a portfolio or certification as a substitute for full-time history.
Which industries hire the most entry level information security specialists?
Entry Level information security specialist roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Consulting & Professional Services, and Education, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive hiring at the junior level because they handle sensitive data at scale, face strict regulatory compliance requirements, and need analysts who can staff security operations and monitoring functions around the clock.
