PRACTICE DESCRIPTION
Operational technology environments require disciplined follow-through to ensure assets, platforms, controls, monitoring, documentation, and support processes remain complete and effective after technology changes or site transitions.
The Platform Integration Engineer – OT role supports operational integration, platform readiness, documentation completion, control/evidence support, monitoring validation, risk/remediation tracking, and stabilization activities that help maintain reliable and supportable OT operations.
JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a technically capable and coordination-focused Platform Integration Engineer – OT to support operational integration, readiness, control/evidence follow-through, documentation completion, platform onboarding validation, and stabilization activities for OT environments.
The role serves as an operations-facing integration resource that helps ensure OT assets, platforms, monitoring, documentation, support records, risk items, and operational readiness activities are identified, tracked, coordinated, and completed.
Role positioning: This role combines technical coordination, operational readiness, platform integration, and support enablement. It is not a pure project management role and does not replace day-to-day operations ownership.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Operational Integration and Readiness
- Validate that OT environments are supportable and operationally ready after implementation or transition activities.
- Track and coordinate closure of readiness findings, support gaps, open items, and integration dependencies.
- Assist operations with aligning transitioned assets, platforms, monitoring, documentation, and support records with the required operating model.
- Coordinate with engineering, cybersecurity, site, vendor, and operations teams when post-transition remediation or clarification is required.
Control, Evidence, and Readiness Support
- Assist with collecting, organizing, validating, and maintaining control evidence and readiness artifacts.
- Support closure of control validation items, remediation actions, exception documentation, and operational readiness gaps.
- Coordinate with cybersecurity, architecture, operations, and site stakeholders to obtain missing information required for control reviews or operational acceptance.
- Track dependencies and evidence needs through completion.
Platform and Monitoring Readiness
- Validate that OT assets, site infrastructure, and security components are represented in appropriate monitoring, visibility, and operational support workflows.
- Support follow-up activities related to alerting, platform health, asset visibility, telemetry, and operational monitoring.
- Coordinate with platform owners and operations teams to close monitoring or support integration gaps.
- Confirm monitoring and escalation expectations are documented and understood by support teams.
Documentation and Records Completion
- Coordinate completion and validation of runbooks, support notes, asset records, diagrams, connectivity information, and operational support instructions.
- Identify documentation gaps affecting supportability, audit readiness, or operational ownership.
- Work with delivery, site, and operations teams to reconcile as-built information with operational records.
- Ensure documentation updates are reflected in the appropriate repositories or operational systems of record.
Risk, Exception, and Remediation Tracking
- Support tracking of risks, exceptions, remediation actions, and operational defects.
- Coordinate technical input from architecture, cybersecurity, delivery, site, and operations teams to support issue resolution.
- Escalate unresolved or high-impact operational readiness risks through appropriate channels.
- Help ensure risk and remediation decisions are documented and traceable.
Operational Support Enablement
- Assist operations teams with understanding support requirements, escalation paths, known issues, and operational considerations for OT environments.
- Validate that support teams have the information needed to triage incidents, manage changes, and support monitoring or platform issues.
- Support development or refinement of operational runbooks and repeatable support patterns.
- Participate in lessons-learned activities to improve readiness and supportability practices.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience preferred.
- 6+ years of experience in infrastructure, cybersecurity, networking, operational technology, platform integration, operations readiness, or technical delivery roles.
- Experience supporting operational readiness, service transition, post-implementation stabilization, compliance readiness, or operations enablement activities.
- Working knowledge of OT environments, site infrastructure, segmentation, firewalls, secure connectivity, monitoring platforms, or industrial systems.
- Ability to coordinate technical work across operations, architecture, cybersecurity, engineering, vendor, and site teams.
- Strong documentation, tracking, communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting manufacturing, industrial, laboratory, or OT environments.
- Experience with control validation, evidence management, exception tracking, audit support, or cybersecurity governance support.

Integration Engineer Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a integration engineer in Illinois?
Illinois does not require a state-issued license for integration engineers, so the path runs through education and employer credentials. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, electrical engineering, or a related field. From there, hands-on experience with integration platforms and vendor certifications from providers like MuleSoft or IBM carry significant weight with Illinois employers, particularly in the Chicago metro's large enterprise and healthcare IT sectors.
How much do integration engineers make in Illinois?
Integration engineers in Illinois earn a median of about $111,930 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $58,920 for the lowest 10% to over $168,770 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire integration engineers in Illinois?
Employers hiring integration engineers in Illinois right now include Northrop Grumman, ARI, and Invenergy, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Illinois's dense concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters, major health systems, and industrial manufacturers means demand is spread across a broad range of sectors rather than one dominant industry.
Which Illinois cities have the most integration engineer jobs?
Chicago, Rolling Meadows, and Peoria account for the most integration engineer openings in Illinois. Chicago dominates due to its concentration of financial services firms, healthcare networks, and enterprise technology companies, while suburban hubs like Naperville and Schaumburg attract roles tied to large corporate headquarters and manufacturing technology operations based in the western and northwestern collar counties.
Are there remote integration engineer jobs in Illinois?
Yes, and more than most technical fields. About 63% of integration engineer openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the desk-based and software-driven nature of much of the work. Roles focused on API development, middleware configuration, and cloud integration tend to be the most remote-friendly, while positions involving on-site industrial systems or manufacturing floor connectivity typically require a physical presence.
How can I get hired as a integration engineer in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior systems integrator or IT associate role at a mid-size Illinois technology services firm or healthcare organization. Large Illinois employers like Advocate Health and Zebra Technologies occasionally run rotational IT programs that include integration work. Building a portfolio around a personal API project or an open-source middleware contribution gives candidates a concrete edge, and an entry-level MuleSoft or Azure Integration Services certification signals readiness to hiring managers reviewing candidates without a long employment history.
Where can I find and apply to integration engineer jobs in Illinois?
You can find and apply to integration engineer jobs in Illinois on Migrate Mate, which lists current Illinois openings from employers actively hiring now. Find roles that fit your experience and apply directly, with no intermediary step required.
