IT Technical Support Jobs in Hawaii: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become an IT technical support in Hawaii?
Most IT technical support roles in Hawaii are entered through an associate or bachelor's degree in information technology or a closely related field, combined with industry certifications like CompTIA A+, Network+, or Microsoft certifications. Hawaii has no state-issued license for general IT support work. Employers, particularly in the public sector and at the University of Hawaii, look closely at certifications and hands-on lab or internship experience when screening candidates.
Which companies hire IT technical supports in Hawaii?
Companies currently hiring IT technical supports in Hawaii include Bank of Hawaii, The Queen's Health Systems, and Hawaiian Electric Company, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hawaii's mix of government contracts, military installations, and large hospitality groups means IT support demand is spread across both the public and private sectors.
Which Hawaii cities have the most IT technical support jobs?
Honolulu, Kapolei, and Hilo have the most IT technical support openings in Hawaii. Honolulu drives the bulk of demand as the state's commercial and government center, home to major agencies, hospital networks, and federal contractors, while Maui and Hilo reflect growing employer bases tied to tourism infrastructure, University of Hawaii campuses, and county government IT departments.
Are there remote IT technical support jobs in Hawaii?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based IT roles, since much of Hawaii's demand is for on-site and field support at government agencies, hotels, and healthcare facilities. About 23% of IT technical support openings tied to Hawaii are remote or hybrid as of July 2026. The positions most likely to allow remote work are tier-one help desk and software troubleshooting roles that do not require physical hardware access.
How can I get hired as an IT technical support in Hawaii with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a CompTIA A+ certification paired with volunteer or internship experience through the University of Hawaii's IT help desk, which regularly places students in entry support roles. The Hawaii Department of Education and Hawaii Pacific University both hire part-time student IT aides, and county government IT divisions occasionally post associate-level positions open to candidates without prior professional experience. Adjacent roles like administrative coordinator or AV technician at Honolulu-area hotels also offer lateral moves into formal IT support tracks.
Where can I find and apply to IT technical support jobs in Hawaii?
