Client Accounting & Advisory Services Internship - Summer 2027
At Sweeney Conrad, our foundation of “people first” begins with our employees—because the success of our firm stems from the relationships within it. We consider our employees family and foster a positive work culture, encouraging a healthy balance between work and life; building a career over having a job; continuing education and skill development; and being actively involved in the Puget Sound community where we live, work, and play.
We’re proud of our employees and our culture, and have been recognized by Accounting Today as one of the “Best Accounting Firms to Work For” and by Puget Sound Business Journal as one of “Washington’s Best Workplaces.”
Our interns will have the opportunity to work with a wide range of clients and industries, enabling them to gain comprehensive exposure to various business sectors. This approach aligns with our commitment to fostering a well-rounded skill set in our interns.
They will experience the real day-to-day life of a Client Accounting & Advisory Services professional and will have opportunities to learn from senior associates, managers and principals how roles change as careers progress.
Interns will engage in early and frequent interactions with all levels of professionals at Sweeney Conrad, including principals and managers. This hands-on experience is crucial for their professional development, allowing them to build relationships with key stakeholders within our organization and the clients we serve.
Our interns will benefit from personalized career development initiatives and mentorship programs where they will reflect on both positive outcomes and opportunities for development. This support system is designed to guide interns through their internship, offering guidance, answering questions, and aiding in their overall professional growth.
To enhance their technical skills and leadership capabilities, interns will participate in company-sponsored training programs conducted by industry leaders within our international network. These programs are integral to the continuous development of our interns and preparing them for future challenges.
Our interns assist in maintaining and reconciling clients’ general ledgers, processing accounts payable and receivable transactions, and supporting month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations. Additionally, they utilize accounting software and tools to streamline processes and improve efficiency, contributing to the success of both the team and the clients they serve. Each intern partners with a mentor who guides them through the internship and answers any questions. While we’re flexible around academic and extracurricular schedules, we expect interns to work 32 hours a week Monday though Thursday. Sweeney Conrad interns are truly essential to the success of our business, and we seek to hire them as full-time employees after graduation.
To be considered for this internship, please ensure you submit your resume, transcript, and a cover letter along with your application.
The pay range for this role is $35.00 per hour. You will be eligible for statutory benefits such as workers' compensation, state disability, and unemployment insurance as prescribed by law.
At Ascend, we provide a fair and equal employment opportunity for all candidates regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, age, marital status, disability, or any other legally protected characteristic. Ascend hires and promotes individuals solely based on qualifications for the position to be filled and business needs.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding J-1 Visa Sponsorship in Client Partner
Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
Client Partner roles typically require demonstrated expertise in account management, business development, or consulting. Document your degree field and professional experience in a way that maps directly to the Trainee or Specialist J-1 category your designated sponsor will evaluate.
Target host employers with structured training programs
Designated sponsors require a detailed training plan before issuing your DS-2019. Prioritize employers who have formal onboarding structures or rotational programs, since those hosts can satisfy the structured training requirement far more easily than informal arrangements.
Search for J-1-receptive Client Partner roles on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter for Client Partner positions at employers familiar with exchange visitor hosting. Identifying hosts who have supported J-1 placements before significantly shortens the negotiation phase once you have an offer.
Clarify the two-year home residency rule early
Some J-1 participants from certain countries or government-funded programs must return home for two years before applying for H-1B or green card status. Confirm with your designated sponsor whether your specific situation triggers this requirement before accepting a host employer offer.
Get your training plan approved before the offer stage
Designated sponsors like Cultural Vistas or AIPT review your training plan independently of the host employer's offer letter. Draft the DS-7002 training plan collaboratively with your prospective host so both documents align before submission, avoiding back-and-forth delays.
Verify your host employer's legal status with E-Verify
Some designated sponsors require host employers to be enrolled in E-Verify before they will issue a DS-2019. Confirm your prospective host's E-Verify status during offer negotiation, not after signing, to avoid last-minute complications in the sponsorship process.

Find Client Partner JobsClient Partner J-1 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Which J-1 program category fits a Client Partner role?
The Trainee category applies if you have a relevant degree and at least one year of professional experience, or five years of work experience without a degree. The Specialist category fits highly experienced professionals with expertise in a specific field. Client Partner candidates, who typically come from account management or business development backgrounds, most often qualify under Trainee, though senior professionals may fit Specialist depending on the designated sponsor's assessment.
Who actually sponsors the J-1 visa for a Client Partner position?
The visa sponsor is a U.S. Department of State-designated organization, such as Cultural Vistas, AIPT, or IIE, not the hiring company. The company you work for is your host employer. The designated sponsor evaluates your qualifications, approves the training plan, issues the DS-2019 form, and monitors compliance throughout your exchange visitor program. Your host employer is responsible for the day-to-day work arrangement, but the legal sponsorship sits entirely with the designated organization.
How do I find Client Partner host employers open to J-1 exchange visitors?
Many employers are unfamiliar with the J-1 Trainee or Specialist process, so targeting companies that have hosted exchange visitors before reduces friction significantly. Migrate Mate lets you search for Client Partner roles at employers with J-1 hosting experience, which is a more targeted starting point than a general job search. Once you identify a willing host, the designated sponsor manages the compliance paperwork.
What is the DS-7002 training plan and why does it matter for this role?
The DS-7002 is a structured training plan that outlines the skills you will develop, the phases of your program, and how your experience relates to your career goals. For Client Partner roles, this typically covers client relationship management, solution design, or account strategy in defined phases. Your designated sponsor will not issue a DS-2019 without an approved DS-7002, so coordinating this document with your host employer during the offer negotiation stage is critical.
Does the two-year home residency requirement apply to Client Partner J-1 participants?
It depends on your country of nationality, your field, and whether your home government funded your exchange program. If the requirement applies, you must return to your home country for two years before you can apply for an H-1B visa or adjust to permanent resident status. Your designated sponsor is required to disclose whether the requirement applies to your specific DS-2019 at the time of issuance, so confirm this before committing to a host employer.
