Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding J-1 Visa Sponsorship as a Global Partnerships Manager
Frame your CV around measurable partnership outcomes
J-1 Trainee and Specialist program applications require a detailed training plan. Documenting specific outcomes, such as deals closed or revenue attributed to alliances you managed, makes it easier for a designated sponsor to justify your placement category.
Confirm your role qualifies under Trainee or Specialist
The Trainee category suits professionals with a degree and at least one year of experience, while Specialist requires five or more years in a recognized occupation. Mismatching your profile to the wrong category delays DS-2019 issuance and can trigger program ineligibility.
Target host employers with existing designated sponsor relationships
Multinationals and research-linked organizations in sectors like international trade, NGOs, and technology often already work with designated sponsors. Use Migrate Mate to identify U.S. employers in those sectors actively listing roles compatible with J-1 sponsorship.
Negotiate a training plan before accepting any offer
Your designated sponsor, such as Cultural Vistas or CIEE, must approve a written training or internship plan before issuing your DS-2019. Agreeing on the plan's objectives with your host employer before signing an offer letter prevents last-minute conflicts that delay your start date.
Check whether the 2-year home residency requirement applies to you
If your home country government funded your education or the role is in a field on the Exchange Visitor Skills List, you may face a 2-year home residency requirement after your J-1 program ends. Verify your status with the State Department before accepting a position that assumes H-1B transition.
Request your host employer's EIN before the DS-2019 is issued
Designated sponsors require verified employer identification before finalizing your DS-2019. Asking your host employer for their Employer Identification Number early prevents administrative delays, particularly at smaller organizations unfamiliar with J-1 host requirements set by USCIS and the State Department.

Find Global Partnerships Manager JobsGlobal Partnerships Manager J-1 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Which J-1 program category fits a Global Partnerships Manager role?
Most Global Partnerships Manager candidates qualify under the J-1 Trainee or Specialist category. Trainee applies if you hold a relevant degree and at least one year of professional experience. Specialist applies if you have five or more years of recognized expertise in international business, alliance management, or a related field, without requiring a formal degree.
Who actually sponsors the J-1 visa for this role, the employer or someone else?
The employer does not sponsor the J-1 visa directly. A U.S. Department of State-designated organization, such as Cultural Vistas, CIEE, or IIE, acts as the official sponsor and issues your DS-2019 form. The hiring company is the host organization. Your host employer and the designated sponsor must coordinate to set up and approve your training plan before the DS-2019 is issued.
How do I find U.S. employers open to hosting a J-1 Global Partnerships Manager?
Migrate Mate lists U.S. employers and roles compatible with J-1 sponsorship, which makes it practical to target host organizations that already understand exchange visitor program requirements. Focus on multinationals, trade associations, and internationally oriented nonprofits, since these sectors most commonly engage designated sponsors for business-category placements.
Can I transition from a J-1 to an H-1B after my Global Partnerships Manager placement ends?
Transitioning to an H-1B is possible, but the 2-year home residency requirement blocks it for some J-1 holders. If your home country government financed your studies or your field appears on the Exchange Visitor Skills List, you must return home for two years before changing to H-1B or applying for a green card, unless you obtain a waiver.
What documents should I prepare before approaching a designated sponsor?
You'll need a confirmed host employer offer or letter of intent, a draft training plan outlining the skills you'll develop and the schedule, proof of your degree and relevant work experience, and evidence of sufficient English proficiency. Designated sponsors review these to determine whether your placement qualifies under the Trainee or Specialist category before issuing a DS-2019.
