- Build and maintain curated prospect lists with personalized outreach designed to uncover new direct brand opportunities
- Leverage AI tools such as Claude and ChatGPT to streamline workflows, improve efficiency, and enhance repeatable processes
- Present an end-of-summer recap to stakeholders summarizing key contributions, insights, and learnings
Requirements
- You have a genuine passion for sports and understand the emotional narratives, rivalries, and fan experiences that shape the industry
- You are currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Economics, Media, Sports Management, Communications, or a related field (Rising Sophomore or Junior preferred), or equivalent experience
- You bring strong storytelling and presentation skills, with proficiency in Google Slides or PowerPoint
- You are highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment
- You are comfortable in collaborative and client-facing settings, with strong verbal and written communication skills

Align your DS-2019 category before applying
Current students pursuing practical training apply under the Intern category, while professionals with a degree plus one year of experience qualify as Trainees. Mismatching your category to your background is the most common reason designated sponsors reject DS-2019 requests.
Document support-specific technical skills formally
Designated sponsors require a structured training plan tying your product support duties to measurable learning objectives. Prepare a skills inventory covering CRM platforms, ticketing systems, and escalation workflows before your sponsor interview, not after you receive a host offer.
Target host employers with dedicated J-1 host agreements
Search for Product Support Specialist roles at companies that already hold active host organization agreements with a designated sponsor. Use Migrate Mate to filter opportunities where the employer has established J-1 visa hiring infrastructure, which shortens your DS-2019 processing timeline significantly.
Verify your role qualifies as a specialty occupation
Not every support role qualifies for J-1 Trainee status. Cross-reference your job description against the O*NET profile for Product Support Specialists to confirm the position requires field-specific knowledge, which designated sponsors use to validate training plan eligibility.
Negotiate training plan scope during the offer stage
Once a host employer extends an offer, request a written outline of your rotation duties before your designated sponsor submits the DS-2019. Sponsors such as Cultural Vistas and CIEE require training plans that specify department rotations, supervisor names, and weekly learning goals for each program phase.
Check for the two-year home residency requirement early
If your country appears on the Exchange Visitor Skills List or your program receives government funding, you may face a two-year home residency requirement after your J-1 ends. Confirm your status with your designated sponsor before accepting a host offer, since this affects future H-1B visa or green card plans.
Product Support Specialist J-1 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Which J-1 program category covers Product Support Specialist roles?
Most Product Support Specialists enter on the Trainee category, which requires a relevant degree plus at least one year of related work experience outside the United States. Current students who have not yet graduated typically use the Intern category instead. Both categories require a designated sponsor to issue the DS-2019 and approve a structured training plan tied to your product support duties.
Who actually sponsors my J-1 visa, the employer or a separate organization?
Your J-1 visa sponsor is a U.S. Department of State-designated organization, not your hiring employer. Organizations such as IIE, CIEE, Cultural Vistas, and AIPT issue the DS-2019 form that authorizes your exchange visitor status. The company where you perform product support work is your host employer. The designated sponsor monitors compliance and program rules throughout your stay.
How do I find Product Support Specialist host employers open to J-1 visitors?
Start your search on Migrate Mate, which surfaces U.S. employers and roles that align with J-1 sponsorship. Look specifically for companies that already hold host organization agreements with a designated sponsor, since those employers have completed the administrative vetting process and can onboard J-1 visitors faster than companies starting fresh.
What does my training plan need to include for a product support role?
Designated sponsors require a detailed training plan that connects your daily product support tasks to specific learning outcomes. Expect to document the CRM systems and ticketing tools you will use, the escalation processes you will learn, supervisor names and their qualifications, and measurable goals for each program phase. Generic job descriptions are not accepted in place of a structured plan.
Can I switch host employers mid-program if a better product support role comes up?
Changing host employers during a J-1 program requires your designated sponsor's approval before you start the new role. Your sponsor must amend your DS-2019 to reflect the new host organization, and the new employer must meet the sponsor's host vetting requirements. Working for an unapproved host employer violates your J-1 status, so get written confirmation from your sponsor before accepting any new offer.
