Licensed Practical Nurse Jobs in Durham: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a licensed practical nurse job in Durham?
The strongest footing in Durham comes from targeting its dominant healthcare corridors: the Duke University Health System campus area, WakeMed's Durham facilities, and the network of long-term care and skilled nursing facilities concentrated along Roxboro Road and south Durham. Candidates with experience in med-surg, geriatrics, or behavioral health have a clear edge here. Applying directly through health system career portals and connecting with local staffing agencies that specialize in clinical placements will move you faster than broad national searches.
Which companies hire licensed practical nurses in Durham?
Companies currently hiring licensed practical nurses in Durham include Duke Health, PruittHealth, and The Emily Program, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Durham's hiring base skews heavily toward large academic medical systems, community health centers, and residential care operators serving the Research Triangle's growing population.
Are there remote licensed practical nurse jobs in Durham?
Remote work is rare for licensed practical nurses because the role is almost entirely hands-on and requires direct patient contact. About 0% of licensed practical nurse openings tied to Durham are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those are typically limited to telephone triage, care coordination, or utilization review positions within larger health systems operating in the area.
How can I get a licensed practical nurse job in Durham with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Durham is through long-term care and skilled nursing facilities, which consistently hire new LPNs and provide structured clinical supervision. Operators along the south Durham and North Roxboro corridors regularly post new-grad openings. Pursuing a certified nursing assistant role first at a Durham facility, then transitioning internally once licensed, is a proven local strategy. Community health clinics affiliated with Lincoln Community Health Center also offer entry-level clinical roles worth targeting early in your career.
Which industries hire the most licensed practical nurses in Durham?
Most licensed practical nurse openings in Durham sit in Healthcare & Medical Services and Consulting & Professional Services, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Durham's position as home to a major academic medical center and a dense network of senior living communities drives consistent demand across inpatient, outpatient, and residential care settings.
