Managing Editor Jobs in Ohio: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a managing editor in Ohio?
Most managing editor roles in Ohio require a bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, English, or a related field, followed by several years of staff-level editing or reporting experience. Ohio does not issue a state license for this role. Employers in Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati typically promote from within, so building editorial experience at Ohio newspapers, university publications, healthcare content teams, or regional magazines is the most direct path to a managing editor title.
Which companies hire managing editors in Ohio?
Companies currently hiring managing editors in Ohio include Collabera, Private Christian Company, and GRAY MEDIA, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Ohio's concentration of major health systems, land-grant university presses, and regional media groups means demand is spread across industries rather than limited to traditional newsrooms.
Which Ohio cities have the most managing editor jobs?
Cincinnati, Ohio, and Columbus have the most managing editor openings in Ohio. Columbus dominates because of its headquarters-heavy economy, including large health systems, tech-adjacent companies, and The Ohio State University, while Cleveland's anchor institutions in healthcare and finance drive demand there, and Cincinnati's consumer-brands and media presence fills out the remainder.
Are there remote managing editor jobs in Ohio?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 67% of managing editor openings tied to Ohio are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the desk-based, digital nature of most editorial work. Content strategy, digital publication management, and newsletter editing are the sub-areas most likely to be fully remote, while roles tied to print production or internal communications at large institutions tend to require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a managing editor in Ohio with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a staff writer, copy editor, or editorial coordinator role at an Ohio media outlet, health system content team, or university communications office, then moving into editorial oversight as opportunities open. Organizations like Cleveland Clinic, Nationwide Children's Hospital, and Ohio university presses often hire editorial assistants and associate editors who grow into managing roles. Building a portfolio of edited work and gaining familiarity with CMS platforms gives candidates a clear edge in Ohio's competitive market.
Where can I find and apply to managing editor jobs in Ohio?
You can find and apply to managing editor jobs in Ohio on Migrate Mate, which lists current Ohio openings across media, healthcare, higher education, and corporate communications. Find the roles that fit your background and apply directly.
