Entry Level Marriage And Family Therapist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level marriage and family therapist job?
Employers hiring entry level marriage and family therapists look for completed supervised clinical hours, a relevant master's degree in counseling or marriage and family therapy, and progress toward state licensure. Candidates who can demonstrate hands-on internship or practicum experience stand out early. Highlighting your clinical specializations, theoretical orientation, and any work with specific populations such as children or couples gives you a concrete edge at this stage.
Which companies hire entry level marriage and family therapists?
Companies hiring entry level marriage and family therapists right now include LifeStance Health, Sutter Health, and US Department of Veterans Affairs, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. At this level, hiring tends to come from community mental health centers, outpatient clinics, school districts, and nonprofit behavioral health organizations that have the supervision infrastructure to support pre-licensed and newly licensed clinicians.
Are there remote entry level marriage and family therapist jobs?
Yes, though most entry level roles involve in-person or hybrid work due to supervision and licensing requirements. About 67% of entry level marriage and family therapist openings are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and these positions are most common at telehealth platforms and larger behavioral health groups that have established remote supervision models for pre-licensed clinicians.
Are these new grad marriage and family therapist jobs?
Yes, these listings include new grad, recent graduate, and junior marriage and family therapist roles. A posting is new grad friendly when it welcomes zero to two years of experience, accepts internship or practicum hours in place of post-degree work history, or explicitly states that candidates working toward licensure are encouraged to apply. These roles are designed for candidates entering the field for the first time.
Which industries hire the most entry level marriage and family therapists?
Entry Level marriage and family therapist roles concentrate in Healthcare & Medical Services and Consulting & Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. These sectors drive entry level hiring because they operate under funding models and service mandates that rely on a steady pipeline of pre-licensed and newly licensed clinicians to meet client demand.
