Medical Assistant Jobs in Austin: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a medical assistant job in Austin?
Focus your search on Austin's large multispecialty clinic groups, federally qualified health centers, and the major hospital campuses anchoring North and South Austin. Certified candidates with phlebotomy or EHR experience move fastest in this market. Applying directly to outpatient clinics in growing corridors like Cedar Park and Pflugerville also works well, since those suburban expansions hire steadily and competition is lower than in the urban core.
Which companies hire medical assistants in Austin?
Austin medical assistant roles are posted by Ascension, University of Texas at Austin, and Millennium Physician and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Austin's hiring mix leans heavily toward large integrated health systems, independent specialty practices, and the fast-growing urgent care chains expanding across the metro.
Are there remote medical assistant jobs in Austin?
Yes, though remote opportunities are rare for hands-on clinical roles and more common for desk-based functions like prior authorization, patient scheduling, and telehealth coordination. About 0% of medical assistant openings tied to Austin are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, skewing toward administrative medical assistant titles. Austin's large telehealth and digital-health employer presence makes it one of the stronger markets for those hybrid clinical-admin positions.
How can I get a medical assistant job in Austin with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Austin is through one of the area's high-volume urgent care chains or community health centers, which regularly hire candidates who have completed an accredited medical assistant program even without prior work history. Austin Community College's medical assisting program has strong local employer relationships. Targeting patient care technician or medical receptionist roles at large clinic networks is a practical lateral move that builds the clinical exposure needed to step into a full medical assistant position.
