Medical Assistant Jobs in Houston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a medical assistant job in Houston?
The fastest path into Houston's market is targeting the Texas Medical Center and the large multispecialty groups and urgent care chains that ring the city in Katy, Pearland, and The Woodlands. Candidates who hold a national certification such as CMA or RMA and have hands-on phlebotomy and EHR experience stand out with Houston's high-volume clinic employers. Bilingual Spanish skills are a genuine edge given the patient population.
Which companies hire medical assistants in Houston?
Houston medical assistant roles are posted by Houston Methodist, Memorial Hermann Health System, and Harris Health and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Houston's hiring mix ranges from major health systems and hospital networks anchored at the Texas Medical Center to independent multispecialty clinics and fast-growing urgent care chains throughout the Greater Houston metro.
Are there remote medical assistant jobs in Houston?
Yes, but with a significant caveat: most medical assistant work is hands-on and on-site, so fully remote roles are uncommon. About 7% of medical assistant openings tied to Houston are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions tend to be in telehealth triage support, prior authorization, or care coordination roles with Houston-based health systems.
How can I get a medical assistant job in Houston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Houston is through the city's many urgent care networks and community health centers, which regularly hire candidates who have completed a medical assistant program and externship, even without prior paid work history. Houston Community College and San Jacinto College both have externship pipelines into local clinics. Applying to high-turnover settings like retail health clinics and federally qualified health centers in Sunnyside and Near Northside opens doors quickly.
Which industries hire the most medical assistants in Houston?
The sectors hiring the most medical assistants in Houston are Healthcare & Medical Services and Education, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Houston's concentration of world-class cancer, cardiac, and transplant programs at the Texas Medical Center, combined with its rapidly expanding suburban primary care infrastructure, drives consistently strong demand across those sectors.
