Responsibilities
- Assign accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes to patient encounters and procedures.
- Review and audit provider documentation for coding compliance and accuracy.
- Prepare, submit, and track electronic and paper insurance claims in a timely manner.
- Follow up on unpaid, denied, or disputed claims with third-party payers, Medicare, and Medicaid.
- Handle patient billing inquiries, explain statements, and set up payment arrangements when necessary.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payer guidelines, regulatory changes, and EMR/EHR system workflows.
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of hands-on experience in medical billing, coding, or a central billing office (CBO) setting.
- Certification: AAPC or AHIMA certification preferred (e.g., CPC, CCS, CCA, or RHIT).
- Technical Skills: Strong familiarity with ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and electronic health record (EHR/EMR) platforms.
