Entry Level Medical Director Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level medical director job?
Focus on clinical leadership experience you gained during residency, fellowship, or internships, since employers hiring at this level weigh hands-on training heavily. Highlight any quality improvement projects, committee work, or administrative responsibilities you held. Applying to roles at community health centers, smaller physician groups, and startups tends to yield more entry level openings than large academic medical centers.
Which companies hire entry level medical directors?
Companies hiring entry level medical directors right now include AbbVie, AccentCare, and Sound Physicians, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These range from health systems and managed care organizations to digital health startups and urgent care groups that build leadership pipelines by recruiting early-career physicians.
Are there remote entry level medical director jobs?
Yes, though most entry level medical director roles are on-site or hybrid given the clinical oversight they involve. About 21% of entry level medical director openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, concentrated in utilization management, care management, and telehealth companies where physician oversight does not require a physical presence.
Are these new grad medical director jobs?
Yes, these listings include new grad, recent graduate, and junior medical director roles alongside other entry level postings. A new grad friendly posting typically welcomes candidates with zero to two years of post-training experience, accepts fellowship or residency leadership in place of formal management history, and values a portfolio of clinical or quality improvement work over a long tenure.
Which industries hire the most entry level medical directors?
Entry Level medical director roles concentrate in Healthcare & Medical Services, Biotechnology & Pharmaceuticals, and Education, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Those sectors drive hiring at this level because they are scaling clinical operations quickly and need early-career physicians who can step into structured leadership roles without requiring years of prior administrative experience.
