Medical Laboratory Technician Jobs in Hawaii: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a medical laboratory technician in Hawaii?
To work as a medical laboratory technician in Hawaii, you must obtain a clinical laboratory license issued by the Hawaii Department of Health's Laboratory Licensing and Certification Program. Licensure requires completing an accredited associate or bachelor's degree program in medical laboratory technology or a related clinical science, followed by passing a nationally recognized exam such as the ASCP MLT certification. After passing, you apply directly to the Hawaii Department of Health for your state license before you can legally practice.
Which companies hire medical laboratory technicians in Hawaii?
Employers hiring medical laboratory technicians in Hawaii right now include The Queen's Medical Center, Clinical Laboratories of Hawaii, LLP, and Diagnostic Laboratory Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hawaii's laboratory hiring is anchored by integrated health systems and reference lab networks that serve both urban Oahu and neighbor island facilities.
Which Hawaii cities have the most medical laboratory technician jobs?
Kailua-Kona, Honolulu, and Waimea have the most medical laboratory technician openings in Hawaii. Honolulu drives the majority of postings as the home of the state's largest hospital systems and reference laboratories, while smaller cities reflect the laboratory staffing needs of regional medical centers and community health clinics serving neighbor island populations.
Are there remote medical laboratory technician jobs in Hawaii?
Yes, but they're rare. Medical laboratory technician work is fundamentally hands-on, requiring direct operation of analyzers, specimen handling, and on-site quality control, so the role is not well suited to remote work. About 0% of medical laboratory technician openings tied to Hawaii are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions are almost exclusively in laboratory data review, telehealth support, or compliance consulting rather than bench work.
How can I get hired as a medical laboratory technician in Hawaii with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a laboratory assistant or phlebotomist role at a Hawaii health system and moving into a technician position once you have floor experience. The Queen's Health Systems and Hawaii Pacific Health have historically offered new-graduate and entry-level laboratory positions that do not require prior technician experience. Completing your ASCP MLT certification before applying gives you a clear advantage, and candidates who have worked as medical assistants or specimen processors in Hawaii clinics are frequently considered for lateral moves into MLT roles.
Where can I find and apply to medical laboratory technician jobs in Hawaii?
You can find and apply to medical laboratory technician jobs in Hawaii on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from Hawaii employers. Search for roles that match your credentials and experience level, then apply directly to the positions that fit. No signup is required to view or apply to listings.
