Nurse Practitioner Jobs in Hawaii
Nurse Practitioner jobs in Hawaii are concentrated in primary care, urgent care, and hospital-based specialties, with a market shaped by the state's high proportion of federally qualified health centers and military-affiliated facilities serving a geographically dispersed population. Honolulu, Hilo, and Kailua-Kona are the primary hiring hubs, and employers such as The Queens Health System, Hawaii Pacific Health, and Kaiser Permanente Hawaii maintain consistent nurse practitioner demand across the islands. Family practice, psychiatric-mental health, and acute care are among the most sought-after specializations, reflecting both chronic primary care shortages and growing behavioral health needs statewide. Nurse Practitioner Jobs in Hawaii: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a nurse practitioner in Hawaii?
To practice as a nurse practitioner in Hawaii, you must hold an active RN license from the Hawaii Board of Nursing, complete a graduate-level NP program accredited by CCNE or ACEN, and pass a national certification exam through ANCC or AANP in your chosen specialty. You then apply for an advanced practice registered nurse license directly with the Hawaii Board of Nursing, which also grants prescriptive authority. Hawaii does not participate in the NP Compact, so a state-specific license is required.
How much do nurse practitioners make in Hawaii?
Nurse practitioners in Hawaii earn a median of about $135,570 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $106,450 for the lowest 10% to over $174,350 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire nurse practitioners in Hawaii?
Hawaii nurse practitioner roles are posted by Signify Health, The Queen's Medical Center, and Hawaii Health Systems Corporation and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hawaii's hiring is anchored by large integrated health systems, federally qualified health centers serving rural and underserved communities across the islands, and Department of Defense or Veterans Affairs facilities tied to the state's significant military presence.
Which Hawaii cities have the most nurse practitioner jobs?
Honolulu, Hawaii, and Kapaa account for the largest share of nurse practitioner openings in Hawaii. Honolulu drives the majority of listings as the home of the state's largest hospital systems and specialty clinics, while Hilo serves as the primary employment center on the Big Island through its regional medical center, and Kailua-Kona reflects growing outpatient and urgent care expansion on the west side of Hawaii Island.
Are there remote nurse practitioner jobs in Hawaii?
Yes, but they're rare. About 42% of nurse practitioner openings tied to Hawaii are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting that most NP roles require direct patient care in a clinical setting. The exceptions are telehealth positions focused on psychiatric-mental health, chronic disease management, or follow-up consultations, which represent the segment of Hawaii NP work most likely to be conducted remotely.
How can I get hired as a nurse practitioner in Hawaii with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to new-graduate NP residency or fellowship programs, which Hawaii Pacific Health and The Queens Health System have offered in primary care and hospital medicine settings. Candidates coming from RN backgrounds in emergency, ICU, or med-surg nursing are well-positioned for acute care NP roles where clinical experience translates directly. Completing your Hawaii APRN license and DEA registration before applying, and targeting federally qualified health centers that routinely hire newer graduates for underserved community sites, strengthens your candidacy considerably.
Where can I find and apply to nurse practitioner jobs in Hawaii?
You can find and apply to nurse practitioner jobs in Hawaii on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to Hawaii employers. Search the listings by specialty or location, identify the roles that match your license, certification, and clinical background, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
