Job Description
Technical personnel perform both routine as well as stat automated and manual procedures, verify and report patient results, handle phone inquiries regarding patient results and specimen collection criteria, are required to participate in quality control and continual quality improvement initiatives on a daily basis as well as successfully complete proficiency and competency testing throughout the year. Technical personnel are expected to be team oriented and have excellent communication and customer service skills. All personnel are expected to take on extra responsibilities, to follow all rules and regulations reflected within both Medical Center as well as Laboratory policies and participate in all required laboratory and Medical Center related activities. The University Hospital East Clinical Laboratory also serves as a training site for both MT as well as MLT students. Most new employee training is completed on site. All technical employees must have ASCP certification or be ASCP eligible. All candidates hired into technical positions which are ASCP eligible are required to obtain licensure within one year of hire.

Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology required. Must complete initial ASCP certification exam within six months of hire and formally obtain MLT certification within one year from the date of hire. On-going: Meets mandatory hospital education and health surveillance requirements. Demonstrates competency within all technical, interpersonal, and cognitive skills required to meet essential job functions
