INTRODUCTION
Jefferson Community Health & Life is looking for a Medical Technologists to work in the evenings/nights.
HOURS
(4) 10 hour shifts - Monday thru Thursday 8pm - 6am
Rotating Holidays. Some weekend call, if necessary.
Position Summary
Performs laboratory testing and specimen collection to support accurate and timely diagnosis and treatment of patients. Ensures that all testing is performed with precision, efficiency, and in compliance with regulatory and organizational standards. This position requires proficiency in phlebotomy and the ability to work independently during evening and night hours.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor Degree or its equivalent in Medical Technology or closely related field.
- ASCP or AMT certification required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in medical lab technology or equivalent
- ASCP certification or eligibility required.
- Phlebotomy skills required; must be proficient in venipuncture and specimen handling for patients of all ages.
- Experience working in all areas of the clinical laboratory preferred.
- Previous experience in a hospital or clinical laboratory setting preferred.
- Experience with Cerner EHR or other electronic health record systems preferred.
- Strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision during evening/night shifts.
Responsibilities
Testing and Quality Control:
- Performs all test procedures and quality control in all areas of the clinical laboratory.
- Performs patient, control, and proficiency testing in Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis/Serology, and Blood Bank in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner.
- Refers specialized or non-routine testing to the appropriate reference laboratory.
- Monitors procedures and activities of the Laboratory Aide, providing guidance, direction, and training as appropriate.
Specimen Collection and Processing:
- Performs venous and capillary blood collection using proper technique and patient identification standards.
- Ensures specimens are collected, labeled, and processed according to established laboratory procedures.
- Applies AIDET and uses two patient identifiers with all patients.
Recordkeeping and Documentation:
- Maintains laboratory records accurately and neatly in accordance with laboratory policies.
- Adheres to all quality control policies and procedures.
- Maintains computer records within the HIS/LIS systems.
- Ensures laboratory documentation is legible and stored for the required retention period.
Blood Bank:
- Maintains the Blood Bank according to CLIA and FDA standards.
- Ensures adequate supply of all blood products; orders and returns units as needed.
- Maintains required paperwork and temperature monitoring for all blood products.
- Performs visual inspection and quality control of blood components.
Equipment and Environment:
- Performs and documents instrument maintenance according to manufacturer and laboratory standards.
- Troubleshoots and resolves instrumentation issues.
- Maintains a clean, safe, and organized laboratory environment.
Compliance and Safety:
- Performs all duties in compliance with JCH&L policies, state and federal regulations, and accreditation standards.
- Maintains current knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and laboratory best practices.
- Consistently follows safety, infection control, and confidentiality standards.
- Reduces organizational liability by adhering to compliance regulations and policies.
Call and Shift Coverage:
- Participates in rotating call coverage for nights, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
- Demonstrates flexibility to adjust work hours to meet departmental needs.
Performance Improvement and Professional Development:
- Participates in continuous quality improvement projects and quality initiatives.
- Reports safety or process concerns to the department head or Safety Officer.
- Maintains current licenses and certifications; attends required educational programs and meetings.
- Shares knowledge and assists in the orientation and training of new staff.
- Participates in JCH&L committees and performance improvement activities supporting departmental and organizational goals.
Complies with the state and federal regulatory requirements related to the performance of JCH&L operations and requirements of the JCH&L Compliance Program, including but not limited to the Service Excellence Standards, the Compliance Policy, Safety and Infection Control, all department and organization-wide policies, Critical Access Hospital requirements, and Federal and State of Nebraska regulations.
