Middle School Teacher Jobs in San Francisco: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a middle school teacher job in San Francisco?
San Francisco Unified School District is the largest single source of middle school teaching positions in the city, and charter networks such as those concentrated in the Mission and Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhoods add a significant number of openings each hiring cycle. Candidates who hold a subject-matter authorization in math, science, or special education have a clear edge in this market, as those vacancies stay open longest and attract the most district recruitment outreach.
Which companies hire middle school teachers in San Francisco?

San Francisco's hiring landscape is driven by the public district, independent charter organizations, and a cluster of private preparatory schools concentrated on the western and northern sides of the city.
Are there remote middle school teacher jobs in San Francisco?
Yes, though remote work is rare for classroom-based middle school teaching roles, which are inherently on-site. About 0% of middle school teacher openings tied to San Francisco are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those tend to be in curriculum development, instructional coaching, or online program delivery rather than traditional classroom positions.
How can I get a middle school teacher job in San Francisco with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in San Francisco is through a student-teaching placement or a district intern credential program, both of which San Francisco Unified actively runs to pipeline candidates into hard-to-fill classrooms. Entry-level candidates often start as instructional aides or long-term substitutes within the district, using that time to build relationships with department heads and demonstrate classroom readiness before moving into a full teaching contract.
