Mining Engineer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a mining engineer in Texas?
You become a mining engineer in Texas by earning a bachelor's degree in mining, geological, or civil engineering, then registering as an Engineer-in-Training through the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors after passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam. After gaining qualifying work experience you can pursue full Professional Engineer licensure in Texas, which many employers require for senior roles and project sign-off responsibilities.
How much do mining engineers make in Texas?
Mining engineers in Texas earn a median of about $100,580 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $79,990 for the lowest 10% to over $169,640 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire mining engineers in Texas?
Employers hiring mining engineers in Texas right now include Terracon Consultants, EOG Resources, and The University of Texas at Austin, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large aggregates quarrying industry and active Permian Basin operations mean demand is spread across both surface mining companies and energy-sector contractors.
Which Texas cities have the most mining engineer jobs?
El Paso, Houston, and Austin have the most mining engineer openings in Texas. Houston anchors demand through its concentration of energy and mining-services headquarters, while San Antonio and Midland reflect activity in aggregates quarrying and Permian Basin resource extraction respectively, making each city's openings a product of its dominant extractive industry.
Are there remote mining engineer jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. About 12% of mining engineer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the fundamentally site-dependent nature of the role. The tasks most likely to be performed remotely are mine planning, data analysis, and reporting, while drilling, blasting, and on-site inspection work requires physical presence at the operation.
How can I get hired as a mining engineer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to summer internship or co-op programs run by large Texas aggregates producers and energy-sector contractors while completing your degree. Companies like Vulcan Materials and Martin Marietta regularly bring on new graduates into junior mine engineer or field engineer associate roles at their Texas quarry sites. Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam and holding an Engineer-in-Training registration through the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors gives you a concrete credential edge over other new applicants.
