Network Systems Administrator Jobs in Kentucky: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a network systems administrator in Kentucky?
Kentucky does not require a state-issued license to work as a network systems administrator, so the path runs through education and industry certification. Most Kentucky employers expect a bachelor's degree in information technology or computer science, though some hire candidates with an associate degree plus strong certifications. CompTIA Network+, Cisco's CCNA, and Microsoft certifications are the credentials that appear most consistently in Kentucky job listings and give candidates a concrete edge.
How much do network systems administrators make in Kentucky?
Network systems administrators in Kentucky earn a median of about $87,020 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $55,920 for the lowest 10% to over $171,770 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire network systems administrators in Kentucky?
Companies currently hiring network systems administrators in Kentucky include The Kidz Club, Trane Technologies, and Appalachian Regional Healthcare, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Kentucky's mix of large healthcare systems, logistics firms, and state government agencies means network administrator demand is spread across multiple stable industry sectors.
Which Kentucky cities have the most network systems administrator jobs?
Louisville, Lexington, and Newport lead Kentucky for network systems administrator openings. Louisville drives the largest share of postings, anchored by its concentration of healthcare IT at major hospital systems and corporate technology divisions, while Lexington's university presence and growing tech sector contribute steady demand, and Frankfort generates openings through state government and agency infrastructure teams.
Are there remote network systems administrator jobs in Kentucky?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based tech roles because network administration often involves hands-on work with physical hardware on-site. About 30% of network systems administrator openings tied to Kentucky are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the role's mixed nature. The tasks most likely to be performed remotely are network monitoring, configuration management, and cloud infrastructure work rather than cabling or hardware installation.
How can I get hired as a network systems administrator in Kentucky with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a help desk or IT support role at a Kentucky healthcare system, university, or state agency, then moving into network administration as you build hands-on skills. Large Kentucky employers including hospital networks and state government departments regularly hire IT support associates who can grow into infrastructure roles. Earning CompTIA A+ followed by Network+ while working support is the credential sequence that Kentucky hiring managers most consistently reference when promoting internally.
