Network Systems Administrator Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a network systems administrator in California?
The most direct path into a network systems administrator role in California is earning a recognized industry certification such as CompTIA Network+ or Cisco's CCNA, paired with a degree or certificate in information technology or computer science from a California community college or state university. California has no state-issued license specific to this role, so employers rely heavily on certifications, hands-on lab experience, and a demonstrated ability to manage enterprise network infrastructure.
How much do network systems administrators make in California?
Network systems administrators in California earn a median of about $106,440 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $72,400 for the lowest 10% to over $166,730 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire network systems administrators in California?
Employers hiring network systems administrators in California right now include Amazon, Meta, and NVIDIA, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's density of tech headquarters, large healthcare networks, and public-sector institutions means consistent year-round demand rather than seasonal hiring spikes.
Which California cities have the most network systems administrator jobs?
San Jose, San Francisco, and Santa Clara have the most network systems administrator openings in California. The Bay Area leads because of its concentration of major technology companies and enterprise software firms, while Los Angeles and San Diego generate strong demand from entertainment, aerospace, defense contractors, and large healthcare systems that each maintain substantial on-premise and hybrid network infrastructure.
Are there remote network systems administrator jobs in California?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based IT roles, since network administrators are frequently needed on-site to manage physical hardware, cabling, and data center equipment. About 16% of network systems administrator openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with remote work most available for monitoring, cloud network management, and documentation-heavy responsibilities rather than hands-on infrastructure tasks.
How can I get hired as a network systems administrator in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting in a helpdesk or IT support role at a California company or public institution, then moving laterally once you have hands-on exposure to networking equipment. Large California employers including county health systems, UC and CSU campuses, and major tech firms regularly post associate-level network technician roles that do not require prior administrator experience. Earning a CompTIA Network+ certification before you apply gives your application a concrete technical signal that compensates for a thin work history.
Where can I find and apply to network systems administrator jobs in California?
You can find and apply to network systems administrator jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings updated regularly. Search the listings for roles that match your experience level and location preference, then apply directly to the employers posting them.
