Nursing Jobs in San Francisco: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a nursing job in San Francisco?
Focus on San Francisco's largest hiring sectors: academic medical centers, community health clinics serving the Mission and Tenderloin, and specialty hospitals on Parnassus and in Noe Valley. Direct-care bedside experience in high-acuity settings gives candidates a clear edge here. Many San Francisco health systems also recruit through their own portals before openings go wide, so applying early to UCSF Health, ZSFG, and Kaiser Permanente's SF campuses is worth prioritizing.
Which companies hire nursings in San Francisco?
San Francisco nursing roles are posted by HiredFirst, Sutter Health, and University of California - San Francisco and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. The city's employer mix leans heavily toward large academic medical systems, public hospitals like Zuckerberg San Francisco General, and federally qualified health centers serving dense urban neighborhoods.
Are there remote nursing jobs in San Francisco?
Yes, though only for a narrow slice of the field, since most nursing work is inherently hands-on and requires physical presence. About 13% of nursing openings tied to San Francisco are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, concentrated in care management, utilization review, and telehealth triage roles. San Francisco's large health plan and digital health employer base makes it one of the stronger metro areas for those non-bedside paths.
How can I get a nursing job in San Francisco with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in San Francisco is a new graduate residency program, offered by UCSF Health, Dignity Health, and Kaiser Permanente's San Francisco facilities, which are structured to onboard RNs with limited clinical hours. Community health clinics in the Mission and Tenderloin also hire new grads for case management and care coordination roles where patient volume and mentorship are both strong starting points for building a local resume.
Which industries hire the most nursings in San Francisco?
The sectors hiring the most nursings in San Francisco are Education and Healthcare & Medical Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. San Francisco's concentration of academic medical centers, a large public hospital system, and a growing digital health and health plan sector makes it one of the more varied nursing markets on the West Coast.
