This position is a 0.8 FTE (64 hours per 2 week pay period), 8 hour day/evening shift and rotating weekends.
Day/Evening Schedule: 50% days and 50% evenings, alternating weeks, Monday - Friday
Start times: 0445, 0500, 0530, 0600, 0900, 1030, 1100, 1130, 1200, 1300, 1400
Day shifts start 1000 and earlier, evening shifts 1100 start times and later
Rotating Saturday shift 0630-1500, approximately once every 3 months
The University of Minnesota Medical Center is looking for Nursing Station Technicians to join our perianesthesia team. The University of Minnesota Medical Center is the flagship location for University of Minnesota Health providing breakthrough medicine and transforming the health of our community.
Perianesthesia Department, three phases of care:
- pre & post has 22 beds providing care for same day surgery patients, inpatients and surgical admits
- Post anesthesia care unit (PACU) has 21 beds and cares for 30-50 patients/day
About the Job
The Nursing Station Technician is a combined position consisting of both Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator roles to deliver direct patient care and administrative duties.
In this role, you will work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to demonstrate excellent customer service, teamwork and communication skills with patients, families, and the healthcare team on a fasted paced unit. Other job duties include:
- Patient care such as personal hygiene, vitals, daily activities, repositioning, transporting, and feeding
- Maintaining unit desk area functions such as answering phones, processing admissions, discharging and transferring forms, transcribing orders, assembling patient charts and ordering tests
- Setting up and maintaining patient rooms
- Ordering and stocking of supplies
- Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required. Ontrack participants much be able to obtain Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.
And one of the following:
- Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program.
Or
- Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting. (Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician)
Or
- Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program
Or
- Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire. This requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech or Nursing Station Attendant position.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a Health Unit Coordinator, Nursing Assistant, or other related experience
