Occupational Therapy Assistant Jobs in Missouri: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a occupational therapy assistant in Missouri?
You must graduate from an ACOTE-accredited occupational therapy assistant program, pass the NBCOT certification exam, and then apply for licensure through the Missouri State Board of Occupational Therapy. Missouri requires an active state license before you can practice, and your NBCOT credential must remain current. Many accredited programs are offered through Missouri community colleges and universities, giving you strong in-state options for completing your fieldwork requirements.
How much do occupational therapy assistants make in Missouri?
Occupational therapy assistants in Missouri earn a median of about $66,070 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $50,990 for the lowest 10% to over $80,930 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire occupational therapy assistants in Missouri?
Missouri occupational therapy assistant roles are posted by tmc, CoxHealth, and EmpowerMe Wellness and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Large integrated health systems in the St. Louis and Kansas City metros anchor much of the consistent full-time hiring across hospital, outpatient, and long-term care settings.
Which Missouri cities have the most occupational therapy assistant jobs?
Springfield, St. Louis, and Kansas City lead Missouri for occupational therapy assistant openings. St. Louis and Kansas City generate the highest volume because of their large hospital systems and dense concentration of skilled nursing and outpatient rehabilitation facilities, while Springfield benefits from the Mercy and CoxHealth systems anchoring a regional healthcare hub for southwest Missouri.
Are there remote occupational therapy assistant jobs in Missouri?
Yes, but they're rare. Occupational therapy assistant work is primarily hands-on, requiring direct patient contact that cannot be performed remotely. About 12% of occupational therapy assistant openings tied to Missouri are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions typically involve documentation, care coordination, or telehealth support functions rather than direct treatment delivery.
How can I get hired as a occupational therapy assistant in Missouri with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing your Level II fieldwork rotations at a Missouri facility and converting that placement into a new-graduate hire. Large employers like BJC HealthCare and Mercy Health regularly bring on new graduates from Missouri's accredited programs through structured onboarding cohorts in their rehabilitation and skilled nursing units. Applying for rehab aide or therapy tech roles at these same facilities is a strong lateral move that builds clinical exposure before you hold your license. Having your NBCOT credential and Missouri license secured before you apply gives you a clear edge over candidates still awaiting results.
Where can I find and apply to occupational therapy assistant jobs in Missouri?
You can find and apply to occupational therapy assistant jobs in Missouri on Migrate Mate, which lists current Missouri openings across hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, outpatient clinics, and school-based settings. Find roles that fit your experience and location, then apply directly to the employer through the listing.
