Oncology Social Worker Jobs in Hawaii: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a oncology social worker in Hawaii?
You must hold a Licensed Clinical Social Worker credential issued by the Hawaii Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Professional and Vocational Licensing Division. The path requires a Master of Social Work degree from an accredited program, supervised clinical hours, and passing the ASWB Clinical exam. Most Hawaii oncology employers also expect direct clinical experience in medical or healthcare settings before hiring into a dedicated oncology role.
Which companies hire oncology social workers in Hawaii?
Hawaii oncology social worker roles are posted by Healthforce, Voyage Health, and American Traveler and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hawaii's concentration of hiring in large integrated health systems and the state's only NCI-designated cancer program means a relatively small number of well-established employers account for most posted openings.
Which Hawaii cities have the most oncology social worker jobs?
Hilo, Honolulu, and Kaunakakai have the most oncology social worker openings in Hawaii. Honolulu dominates because it is home to the state's largest hospital systems and the highest concentration of oncology treatment facilities, while Hilo and Kailua-Kona reflect the healthcare infrastructure serving Hawaii Island's population across both the east and west sides of the island.
Are there remote oncology social worker jobs in Hawaii?
Yes, but they're rare. Oncology social work is largely an in-person role requiring direct patient contact in hospitals, infusion centers, and hospice settings. About 0% of oncology social worker openings tied to Hawaii are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions tend to focus on telephonic case management, care navigation, or insurance-side utilization review rather than direct clinical support.
How can I get hired as a oncology social worker in Hawaii with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a medical social work position at a Hawaii hospital first, then transitioning into oncology after building clinical hours in an acute care setting. Large Hawaii health systems like The Queen's Health System and Hawaii Pacific Health sometimes offer new-graduate social work fellowships or supervised internship placements. Completing an MSW field placement in a medical or palliative care unit, earning your Hawaii LCSW license promptly, and volunteering with hospice organizations on Oahu or the neighbor islands all strengthen a candidate's profile significantly.
Where can I find and apply to oncology social worker jobs in Hawaii?
You can find and apply to oncology social worker jobs in Hawaii on Migrate Mate, which lists current Hawaii openings in one place. Search the listings, identify the roles that match your experience and credentials, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
