Operations Engineer Jobs in Vermont: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a operations engineer in Vermont?
Most operations engineer roles in Vermont require a bachelor's degree in engineering, industrial technology, or a related field, with hands-on experience in manufacturing or facilities operations typically expected by employers. For roles carrying PE-level sign-off authority, candidates must obtain licensure through the Vermont Board of Professional Engineering, which administers the Fundamentals of Engineering and Principles and Practice of Engineering exams. Many Vermont employers also value Lean or Six Sigma certification as a practical alternative entry credential.
Which companies hire operations engineers in Vermont?
Employers hiring operations engineers in Vermont right now include Casella Waste Systems, CVS Health, and The Home Depot, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Vermont's manufacturing and energy sectors drive consistent demand, with defense contractors and semiconductor facilities around Burlington among the most active recurring hirers.
Which Vermont cities have the most operations engineer jobs?
Rutland, Burlington, and South Burlington have the most operations engineer openings in Vermont. Burlington anchors the market as the state's largest metro, driven by advanced manufacturing, defense, and energy employers, while Montpelier and Rutland reflect demand from state-level infrastructure operations and regional industrial facilities that draw talent from surrounding communities.
Are there remote operations engineer jobs in Vermont?
Yes, but they're rare. Operations engineer work is inherently hands-on, tied to facilities, equipment, and production floors that require a physical presence. About 27% of operations engineer openings tied to Vermont are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those tend to be process improvement, data analysis, or project coordination roles rather than floor-level or plant operations positions.
How can I get hired as a operations engineer in Vermont with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a manufacturing technician, production coordinator, or facilities technician role at one of Vermont's larger industrial employers, then moving into junior operations engineering after demonstrating process knowledge. GlobalFoundries and General Dynamics have historically brought on new graduates and early-career candidates through structured rotational or associate programs at their Vermont facilities. An internship through the University of Vermont's College of Engineering, combined with a Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt, meaningfully strengthens a candidate's application for that first step up.
Where can I find and apply to operations engineer jobs in Vermont?
You can find and apply to operations engineer jobs in Vermont on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to the Vermont market. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your background and location, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
