Hi, we're Oscar. We're hiring an Analytics Engineer I to join our Data Team.

You’ll work within Oscar’s unified data foundation in dbt, partnering with domain experts and stakeholders to capture business logic and translate it into dimensional models that serve analytics use cases across the organization. Under the guidance of more senior Analytics Engineers, you’ll build and maintain models, implement automated tests to ensure long-term data product health, and contribute to the semantic layer that powers enterprise business intelligence. This is a hands-on role focused on growing your craft in dimensional modeling, SQL, and analytics engineering within a healthcare environment.
You will report into the Associate Director, Data Science.

- Advance the Analytics Engineering roadmap by executing on small-to-medium projects with minimal oversight.
- Contribute to the administration of the analytics platform, including but not limited to active participation in support channels and actioning access requests.
- Leverage a working knowledge of existing data quality checks as well as monitoring and alerting pipelines to perform Root Cause Analyses of data defects as needed and escalate to the appropriate team when warranted.
Requirements
- 1+ years of experience in Analytics Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
- 1+ years of experience working with SQL.
- 1+ years of experience developing in a semantic modeling language (e.g. LookML).

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding OPT Sponsorship as an Analytics Engineer
Target companies with a track record of STEM OPT hiring
Search for employers who have previously hired OPT students in data engineering or analytics roles. Companies with existing data teams are more likely to understand STEM OPT authorization and have HR processes already in place for it.
Confirm your role qualifies for the STEM OPT extension
Analytics Engineer roles typically fall under CIP codes for Computer Science or Information Technology. Verify your degree's CIP code matches your employer's listed SOC code before accepting an offer to ensure your 24-month extension is protected.
Lead with your technical stack, not your visa status
Hiring managers for Analytics Engineer roles prioritize SQL proficiency, dbt experience, and familiarity with tools like Snowflake or BigQuery. Demonstrate clear technical depth in applications before the visa conversation comes up.
Ask specifically about H-1B sponsorship during the offer stage
Many companies sponsor H-1B visas for Analytics Engineers but do not advertise it upfront. Ask directly whether the company sponsors H-1B petitions for this role before accepting, not after your OPT period is already running down.
Build a portfolio of data models and pipeline projects
Public GitHub repositories showing dbt models, data transformation logic, or pipeline architecture help you stand out. Concrete technical output signals the level of specialization that justifies STEM OPT and future H-1B sponsorship to employers.
Start your job search at least six months before OPT expires
Analytics Engineer hiring cycles can take two to four months from application to offer. Starting early gives you enough runway to negotiate sponsorship terms and submit your STEM OPT extension application before your initial OPT period ends.
Analytics Engineer OPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Analytics Engineer role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
Yes, in most cases. Analytics Engineer positions typically fall under SOC codes for Software Developers or Database Administrators, which are STEM-designated occupations. Your degree's CIP code must also be STEM-eligible. Degrees in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Statistics are the most common qualifying fields for this role.
How do I find Analytics Engineer jobs that sponsor OPT students?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for F-1 OPT students and filters Analytics Engineer roles by sponsorship willingness. This saves you from applying to positions where visa authorization will be a dealbreaker. Browsing Migrate Mate's listings lets you focus your effort on employers who already understand OPT and STEM extension requirements.
Do Analytics Engineer employers commonly sponsor H-1B visas after OPT?
Yes. Analytics Engineering is a specialized, high-demand role, and many mid-to-large employers in tech, finance, and healthcare sponsor H-1B petitions for it. Companies with mature data teams, particularly those using tools like Snowflake, dbt, or Databricks at scale, have strong incentives to retain OPT employees through the H-1B process.
What is the E-Verify requirement for STEM OPT, and does it affect Analytics Engineer jobs?
STEM OPT requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. This applies to every Analytics Engineer role you accept on a STEM extension, regardless of company size. Before accepting an offer, confirm E-Verify enrollment directly with HR. If the employer is not enrolled, your STEM OPT extension approval will be at risk.
Can I work as a contractor or on a project basis as an Analytics Engineer on OPT?
OPT requires that your work be directly related to your degree field and that you have a formal employer relationship. Short-term contract work through a staffing agency can qualify, but you must have a clear employer of record enrolled in E-Verify for STEM OPT. Self-employment and independent consulting arrangements are generally not permitted under OPT regulations.
