How to Get Visa Sponsorship as a Clinical Case Manager
Target healthcare systems with OPT track records
Large hospital networks and nonprofit community health organizations hire case managers at scale and often have HR teams familiar with OPT authorization. Smaller private practices rarely have the infrastructure to support international work authorization paperwork.
Confirm your degree qualifies for the role
Most Clinical Case Manager postings require a bachelor's or master's in social work, psychology, or a related field. Verify your degree field matches the job description before applying, since USCIS scrutinizes degree-to-role alignment during OPT and future H-1B petitions.
Prioritize roles with structured supervision requirements
Positions that require licensed clinical supervision, such as those at community mental health centers or federally qualified health centers, tend to have employer investment in retaining staff, making them more likely to support visa sponsorship conversations long-term.
Search Migrate Mate for OPT-friendly case manager openings
Migrate Mate filters jobs by visa sponsorship willingness, so you can focus on employers already open to OPT workers. Use it to identify Clinical Case Manager roles posted by healthcare organizations with documented sponsorship histories.

Get Access To All JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Do Clinical Case Manager jobs qualify for OPT work authorization?
Yes, if your degree is directly related to the role. OPT requires that your employment be in a field directly related to your major area of study. A Clinical Case Manager position typically qualifies for graduates with degrees in social work, psychology, counseling, public health, or nursing. You should document the connection between your coursework and job duties in case your DSO or USCIS requests verification.
Can I work as a Clinical Case Manager on STEM OPT extension?
Only if your degree is on the STEM Designated Degree Program List. Social work and psychology are generally not STEM-designated, but public health, health informatics, and certain behavioral science programs may qualify. Check your program's CIP code on the DHS STEM list before assuming you're eligible. If your degree qualifies, a 24-month STEM OPT extension gives you significantly more time to find an H-1B sponsor.
Which employers are most likely to sponsor OPT workers for Clinical Case Manager roles?
Large nonprofit hospital systems, federally qualified health centers, and government-affiliated behavioral health agencies are the most consistent OPT sponsors for case management roles. These organizations hire at volume, have established HR processes for work authorization, and often support H-1B petitions for high-performing staff. You can find Clinical Case Manager openings at sponsorship-friendly employers on Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for OPT-compatible roles.
What happens to my OPT if my Clinical Case Manager contract ends before my EAD expires?
You have a 60-day grace period from the date your employment ends, during which you can find a new position. Your OPT EAD does not get extended, so the clock keeps running. If you secure a new Clinical Case Manager role within the grace period, you can begin work immediately. If you cannot find a new position in time, you must either depart the U.S. or transition to another valid immigration status.
Does a Clinical Case Manager role count as unemployment time under OPT rules?
Any period without qualifying employment counts toward your OPT unemployment limit, which is 90 days for standard OPT and 150 days for STEM OPT extension. Part-time work of at least 20 hours per week qualifies, so a part-time case manager position while searching for full-time work does count. Keep documentation of all employment, including offer letters and pay stubs, to demonstrate continuous authorized work if USCIS or your DSO ever reviews your record.
