- Serving as a subject matter expert for assigned data platforms or domains, helping business teams understand how to leverage data products to advance analytical and operational needs.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
To ensure we deliver on our commitment to challenging the status quo, this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates must have.
- Ability to describe one or more data products you owned, including the problem statement and approach followed to deliver the data products.

- Experience with modern data platforms (e.g., Google BigQuery).

How to Get Visa Sponsorship as a Data Product Manager
Confirm your degree qualifies for the STEM OPT extension
Data Product Manager roles often qualify for the 24-month STEM extension if your degree is in computer science, information systems, or a related field. Verify your CIP code with your DSO before accepting an offer.
Lead with your data and product credentials, not your visa status
Frame your application around SQL proficiency, product analytics experience, and cross-functional delivery. Employers evaluate sponsorship costs against value, so demonstrating strong technical product skills justifies the investment upfront.
Ask about H-1B sponsorship before the final round
Raise sponsorship directly after receiving a positive hiring signal, not at the offer stage. This saves time for both sides and avoids accepting roles where sponsorship was never a realistic option for your position.
Highlight hybrid skills that reduce employer risk
Data Product Managers who combine technical fluency with stakeholder management are harder to replace. Demonstrating both reduces the perceived hiring risk for employers weighing the time and cost of sponsoring a visa petition.

Can I work as a Data Product Manager on F-1 OPT?
Yes. Data Product Manager roles typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a related field, which aligns with F-1 OPT eligibility requirements. Your employment must be directly related to your degree field. If your degree is in computer science, information systems, or a similar STEM discipline, you may also qualify for the 24-month STEM OPT extension.
Does a Data Product Manager role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
It depends on your degree, not the job title. If your bachelor's or master's degree is classified under a qualifying STEM CIP code, such as computer science, data science, or management information systems, and your Data Product Manager role relates to that field, you can apply for the 24-month extension. Confirm your CIP code with your Designated School Official before accepting an offer.
How do I find Data Product Manager jobs that sponsor OPT and H-1B?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for F-1 OPT students and filters job listings by sponsorship history and visa compatibility, so you can browse Data Product Manager roles at employers who have a track record of sponsoring international candidates. Searching general job boards makes it difficult to identify sponsorship-ready employers, which wastes time during a period when your OPT clock is running.
What happens if my OPT expires before my H-1B is approved?
If your employer files an H-1B petition by the April deadline and you are still on valid OPT at the time of filing, you are eligible for cap-gap protection. This automatically extends your OPT work authorization through September 30 of that year, or until your H-1B start date, whichever comes first. Your employer's immigration counsel should file before your OPT end date to ensure continuity.
Do I need to disclose my OPT status when applying for Data Product Manager roles?
You are not legally required to disclose visa status during the application process, but most employers ask directly on application forms whether you require sponsorship. Answering honestly saves time and ensures you are only moving through interviews at companies prepared to support your work authorization. Attempting to conceal the need for sponsorship rarely succeeds and creates risk at the offer stage.
