Devops Manager Jobs for OPT Students
DevOps Manager roles are actively sponsored for OPT, particularly at mid-size tech companies and enterprises scaling their cloud infrastructure. Most positions require H-1B sponsorship intent, so your 12-month OPT window, and 24-month STEM extension if you hold a qualifying degree, shape which employers are realistic targets.

How to Get Visa Sponsorship as a Devops Manager
Target STEM OPT-eligible employers first
Companies that have sponsored H-1B visas for engineering managers in the past are your strongest leads. Filter for employers with a track record of filing for DevOps or infrastructure roles, not just software engineers broadly.
Lead with infrastructure scope, not just tools
Hiring managers want DevOps Managers who can own platform reliability and team delivery, not just configure pipelines. Frame your experience around uptime metrics, incident reduction, and cross-functional ownership to stand out from purely technical candidates.
Address your OPT timeline directly in outreach
Recruiters at sponsoring companies appreciate clarity. Stating your OPT end date and STEM extension eligibility upfront removes ambiguity and signals you understand the process, which builds confidence rather than raising concerns about your work authorization.
Prioritize companies with existing H-1B infrastructure
Firms that already work with immigration counsel and have sponsored engineers are far more likely to sponsor a DevOps Manager. Look for mid-to-large tech companies and cloud-heavy enterprises where this role sits on a defined career path.
Quantify your team and platform impact
DevOps Manager roles attract strong competition. Concrete numbers, such as team size managed, deployment frequency improvements, or cost reductions from infrastructure changes, make your resume sponsorable because they justify the role's business-critical nature to USCIS.

Can I work as a DevOps Manager on F-1 OPT?
Yes. DevOps Manager is a specialty occupation that qualifies for OPT work authorization. The role typically requires a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, information systems, or a related engineering field. If your degree falls under a STEM-designated CIP code, you may also qualify for the 24-month STEM OPT extension after your initial 12 months.
Does a DevOps Manager role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
It depends on your degree, not the job title. If you hold a STEM-designated degree, such as computer science, computer engineering, or information technology, and the employer is enrolled in E-Verify, you can apply for the 24-month extension. DevOps Manager roles almost always satisfy the practical training requirement because the work directly relates to STEM fields.
Which employers are most likely to sponsor a DevOps Manager for an H-1B?
Technology companies, cloud service providers, and large enterprises with dedicated platform or SRE teams are the most consistent sponsors for this role. Companies already running on AWS, GCP, or Azure at scale tend to treat DevOps Managers as business-critical hires, which strengthens the case for sponsorship. Migrate Mate lists DevOps Manager openings filtered by sponsorship history so you can focus on realistic targets.
How does the H-1B cap timing affect my job search as a DevOps Manager on OPT?
H-1B cap petitions must be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start date. If your OPT expires before October 1 and you have not filed for a STEM extension, there will be a gap in work authorization. Most OPT students in this situation file for the STEM extension to bridge that gap. Start your job search at least nine months before your OPT end date to align offers with the H-1B filing window.
Is DevOps Manager considered a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes. DevOps Manager consistently qualifies as a specialty occupation because it requires theoretical and practical application of highly specialized knowledge, typically in software engineering, systems architecture, or computer science. USCIS evaluates the specific job duties and degree requirement, so your offer letter and employer documentation need to clearly connect the role to a defined technical discipline.
