How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Material Control Clerk
Highlight ERP and inventory system experience
Employers prioritize candidates who know SAP, Oracle, or similar ERP platforms. Listing specific systems on your resume signals operational readiness and reduces training costs, making sponsorship conversations easier to start.
Clarify your OPT timeline upfront
Material Control roles often involve long-term project cycles. Letting hiring managers know your exact OPT end date and STEM extension eligibility early helps them plan around your authorization window without surprises during onboarding.
Pursue roles at companies with active H-1B histories
Search OFLC disclosure data to identify which employers have sponsored similar operations roles before. Prior sponsorship history is one of the strongest signals that a company will support your transition beyond OPT.
Connect with supply chain and operations recruiters directly
Internal recruiters at logistics and manufacturing companies often have discretion to flag OPT-friendly roles. Reaching out directly through professional networks can surface openings before they receive high application volumes.
Use Migrate Mate to filter OPT-friendly openings
Migrate Mate curates jobs from employers open to sponsoring international candidates. Browsing Material Control Clerk postings there saves time by surfacing roles where your OPT status is less likely to be an immediate disqualifier.

Get Access To All JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Can I work as a Material Control Clerk on F-1 OPT?
Yes. Material Control Clerk roles are standard full-time positions that qualify for F-1 OPT work authorization. Your employment must be directly related to your field of study, so degrees in supply chain management, logistics, industrial engineering, or operations management typically satisfy the requirement. Confirm the connection with your DSO before accepting an offer.
Do Material Control Clerk jobs qualify for the 24-month STEM OPT extension?
It depends on your degree, not the job title. If you hold a STEM-designated degree such as industrial engineering, operations research, or supply chain management, and the role uses those skills, you may qualify for the extension. The employer must also be enrolled in E-Verify. Confirm your degree's STEM eligibility on the official DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List.
How do I find Material Control Clerk employers willing to sponsor OPT students?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find Material Control Clerk openings from employers open to sponsoring international candidates. Beyond that, reviewing OFLC H-1B disclosure data shows which companies have sponsored similar supply chain and operations roles historically, giving you a strong proxy for sponsorship willingness before you invest time applying.
What happens to my OPT authorization if I switch Material Control Clerk employers?
You can change employers on OPT without filing anything new, but you must report the change to your DSO within 10 days so it is updated in SEVIS. Your OPT end date does not change. If you're on a STEM extension, the new employer must also be enrolled in E-Verify and you'll need to submit an updated Form I-983 training plan.
Is a Material Control Clerk role considered related to my degree for OPT purposes?
USCIS does not publish a fixed list of approved role-degree combinations, so there is no single definitive answer. The connection must be reasonable and defensible. A degree in supply chain, logistics, industrial technology, or business operations typically supports a Material Control Clerk position. Your DSO can help you document the relationship before you accept the job.
